Another issue just cropped up with my 2006 Avalon....
On startup, the front button on the climate control flashes for several seconds. The system will not heat on the left side, but the right will.
Experienced the problem of a flashing defrost button and the entire HVAC system "frozen"? All the other buttons become useless while the defrost button is flashing on and off. If I then hold either the a/c button or the auto button, the system starts up at 75 degrees with the air running. I can then adjust to where I want it to be.

View 11 RepliesI have a 05 Avalon XLS and I've just discovered an issue with my climate control. It's that time of year that things are warming up so we started using A/C and found that driver's side vents are blowing warm air while passenger side vents are blowing cold. I've tried varied temps and dual mode on and off as well as auto and manual control. Nothing makes a difference. I suspect some sort of thermostat for the driver's side, but I really have no clue.

View 4 RepliesI just purchased a 2014 Avalon XLE Touring. One thing that seems to be a slight problem is the A/C setting. To get the car to cool down I have to turn the setting down to about 66 to make it comfortable and I know it is not 66 degrees in the car. Is there some way to calibrate the temp reading?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 Camry. The last few weeks, I've had an intermittent issue with the AC not initializing properly on engine startup and I get no AC. The AC light will be on, the blower works normally, but changing the AC/heat blend dial has no effect, I get full heat no matter what the setting.
The only way to make the AC come back on is turn the car off and restart. On ignition, instead of the climate control cluster lights and the blower coming on immediately, the rear defrost light will blink amber for about 10 seconds before the climate control system initializes and usually, the AC will come on at that point.
I had it into the shop and they could not figure out what was going on. No computer codes. They finally said the compressor current was spiking over spec and replaced it. However, two days later and it's happening again, worse than ever in that it took like six restarts for the system to initialize properly this morning after I pulled over because I was getting roasted.
I have a 2005 Avalon with a 2GR-FEV6 engine with approx. 130,000 miles on it that ticks or chatters for about 2 seconds at startup. The sound is coming from the #2 bank directly below & forward of the oil filler cap (forward most bank, right side). The sound is only present after the car has been sitting for 2-3 hours or more and relatively cool right before startup. There is no other drivability issues such as reduced performance, power or gas mileage. It's not throwing a fault code and the symptoms began within 5000 miles of changing to Royal Purple synthetic oil at 110,000 miles. I don't know if that is a coincidence or the reason for the ticking.
My initial thought was a faulty VVT-i oil control solenoid/valve but I pulled it out, put 12 volts to it and it worked fine. My second thought was a possible clogged VVT oil screen or filter. give me the possible symptoms of what a clogged screen would do? Would it cause the VVT-i actuator to lag just long enough to cause this noise since the oil needs to get through the screen to flow through the oil control valve to affect the operation of the VVT-i actuator and if so what is actually making the noise? It sounds like rocker arms slapping but just in that one spot.
When car is cold and leave the house a nasty smell emits from the ventilation system. I have replaced the cabin air filter 2 weeks ago and it seems to smell only when the car is cold. Once warmed up is fine. Is there another filter that I need to replace I just wonder where that old smell comes from.

View 5 RepliesI was wondering from the community if they ever hear a "motor" sound or like a "leveling" sound coming from the steering/instrument cluster area after you press the keyless start button (not starting the car). To me I was thinking it's like the car is maybe moving the steering column kinda like how luxury cars move the steering away to allow people to get in and out. But I don't believe the steering wheel is powered since I adjust it using the levers. Just wondering what this sound is for, worried something isn't right with that.

View 14 RepliesMy '05 XLE has a small problem (I think). Had the car for just over a year and yesterday noticed that when I choose the defrost mode there is no indicator on the control panel to show it's in that mode. All the other function positions have indicator icons to show what mode is selected.
I don't use the defrost only mode very often and now wonder if it never worked since I've owned it or if there isn't an indicator for defrost mode. Isn't there an indicator for that mode?
Heard a 'what was that ' noise as I was backing out of the garage this morning. Can't see any cause, but when I looked at the gear selector image on the dash, the letter 'R' had a square around it and the square is flashing . No other letters have a square .

View 2 RepliesI have a 2005 6.0 f350 lariat... My climate control doesn't switch very well I can get it to go to floor sometimes after 15min of pressing the button. The vacuum pump is good the tank has no cracks. I feel that the system is either plugged up or has a leak. I cleaned the tank after my hub seals went and it sucked a ton of dust and dirt through my wheel bearings in to the tank. Is the vacuum switching part of the digital display? Or is there a separate part?
View 1 RepliesMy 2009 Sonata Limited always has the front window defroster come on in cooler temps when the climate control is set to AUTO. This is aggravating since it shouldn't do that. I took it in for service last year at this time and they didn't find anything wrong and I gave up arguing with the dealer about it.
Is there a sensor or something that is out of adjustment? It comes one when the temp is about 40F or lower and you just start the car after it's been sitting cold. I don't notice it so much when I am out on multiple errands.
Another thing that I notice is that I can never just turn the fans on for air circulation when the temps are moderate, not needing A/C or heat. If it turn the fan on, it always seems to blow cold air feeling like the A/C is on, even if it is not in AUTO mode. I complained about the same thing and the dealer said the unit is operating OK.
We just got the car and I know for fact the CC worked before. Now I don't even get a light when pushing the on/off button on the end of that incredibly weak column arm.
Is there a fuse, or relay? I checked under the hood in the fuse/relay box everything there seems fine, although I don't know if 1 of those relays controls the CC?
2006 Avalon
I took my Avalon to get Dyno'd to see if module I foolishly bought actually provided any horsepower gains. Much to my dismay, I could not Dyno the car without the module because the traction control wouldn't allow, seeing as the rear wheels were not moving. Apparently, there is no switch for the traction control, but is there another way to disengage it...?
View 5 RepliesMy 2005 Ford F250 6.0 diesel CLIMATE CONTROL DEFAULTS TO DEFROST mode all the time now. For some reason I'll turn on the AC and it is either already in defrost or changes to it no matter what I do. Is the head unit in the dash the problem or is it a vacuum leak or an electrical issue?
