While hooking up some tempory trailer lights. I lost all brake lights. No fuses blown one mechanic tells me its the brake light switch. I can see it disco the wire but can't get it out to test, how it comes out. Also my vcs abs and traction lights are on. Local parts store wants 132.00 for it.
View 2 RepliesThe brake lights come on in the rear after i park the car. it appears the brake pedal is not springing back for enough to disengage the brake lights. It does not do this all the time, but seems to have start doing this at night when it gets colder. I can look outside and see my brake lights on, then go off, then come back on. It has made the battery go dead twice in the last week. is this a easy fix or something more complicated. this has nothing to do with parking brake, i normally do engage parking brake since i park on a flat surface road in front of my home.
View 6 RepliesI have an '05 Camry XLE with the in-dash touch-screen AM/FM CD Nav system. On random cold days I seem to lose my radio reception. When I turn on the radio I receive a lot of static with break-through talking or music. I've tried to change stations using the touch panel, the steering control as well as the manual tuning dial and I still got static.
I've driven to work ~40 minutes and most of them were filled with static and some break-through talking (not of the station I was tuned into though). The last couple of minutes of my drive I did get a station that said it was 98.3 but I was tuned into 95.5. No matter which station I dialed in I still received the 98.3 station.
It seems like the antenna or something in the radio was stuck or frozen. I drove the entire time with the heat blaring on feet/defrost and rear defroster on thinking it might warm something up but that didn't work.
I just had an oil change and was told that my brake fluid needed to be replaced because it was contaminated.
I didn't have time to have it done that day so I said I'd have to bring my 2009 Rav4 back in, but then I started thinking about it...
How would my brake fluid get contaminated? No one but the dealer has touched the car, and they just did an oil change a month and a half ago with fluid top offs and it was fine then.
I just want to make sure it's possible for my fluid to get contaminated on it's own before I go paying for them to replace it all, especially since I just had new brakes put on this spring and everything was fine a month and a half ago. I'm suspicious that some rookie tech might have made a mistake and I might end up paying for it, if contamination is something that happens a lot then I'll give them the benefit of doubt, but if it's really rare I'm more inclined to believe the last tech to touch it messed something up.
Like a dummy I left my 2011 in drive overnight and didn't go out to drive it until this afternoon. It wouldn't start. Tried to jump it with a Camry and still would not start, but inside lights did come on. Do you think it's the battery? Should my next move be to get a car battery charger and try to charge it? Battery looks new. Car is less than a month old.

I checked and yes I'd left the light switch on, and yes the car had shut them off correctly - but will it also turn them on and then start the car ? Seems like a needless strain on the battery .
View 2 RepliesI am driving a 2007 Avalon XLS with about 71,000 miles. These lights came on together yesterday. After consulting this forum, I checked the gas cap and found it was indeed loose (or at least had not been engaged with any of the "required" three clicks.) I closed the gas cap tightly and restarted the car. The lights promptly came back on.
I drove to AutoZone where someone pulled the codes: P0306 and P0356. They gave me a printout suggesting the number 6 cylinder was misfiring (P0306) and an ignition coil circuit fault (P0356).
Was installing my new radio and somehow the lights for the buttons wont come on when the headlights are on. Is there a fuse i can check? Where is it located? I checked under the hood but i didn't see a fuse for dash lights.
View 2 RepliesVibration in steering started in January soon after full brake job, new rotors, etc. on my 05AvyXLS. Pronounced between 60 and 70 mph where steering wheel shakes in my hands. Had tires balanced and rotated 3 or 4 times, alignment, checked tires/treadwear, in 3 diff stores (incl dealer)...same problem. Just bought new set of tires today, thought prob would go away since all pros thought was a tire prob...negative. Same prob, only even more pronounced!
I'm thinking I have a tie rod, wheel bearing, strut/shock, or some kinda suspension prob? I've spent considerable dough with exactly the same prob. And could there have been something related to the brake/rotor job? My pro says no, unless there is vibration when I brake, which there is not! Vibration occurs b/t 60 and 70, whether I'm in the gas or not, and does not happen when braking! What can this be??
I have an '09 Avalon with 34K miles. On braking we get a shudder. It's especially noticeable on gentle braking. I am pretty sure this is due to the brake rotors being warped or whatever the correct term is. Are these covered under warranty? I'm a skeptic and I feel sure the dealer will try and blame the tires but they are wearing evenly and are rotated every 5K. The ride is smooth when not braking so tire balance should not be an issue.
View 7 RepliesMy 05 Avalon Touring rear brake sequel quite loudly when reversing any time of the day, after that no sound throughout the whole day going forward or reverse. It only happens if the car is parked for a while, as in 5 hours or more. I checked out the breaks and the pads still have quite of life left in them, and the rotors are still in great condition. I also took them to sears auto center (only place I can actually trust), they said I don't need any brake services for a while and everything is great.
View 2 RepliesI was using a 2004 Heritage F150 and when I connected a trailer to it something got fried. I lost both my turn signals and brake lights. The trailer worked fine on my friends truck so I don't think the issue was there but with the 4-pin round connector that was on the truck.
I found two 10A fuses blown under the hood and replaced them but that didn't work. They were in slots 19 and 20 and are listed as the camper/trailer adapter fuses. The running lights still work. The interior turn signal arrows don't even light up or anything when the turn signal is activated.
I have a 2006 Avalon and I accidentally touch two wires on one of the DRL lights and it blew out I changed the bulb and still nothing, which fuse operates them? I check the owners manual and did see any fuse that runs the DRL.
View 8 RepliesI had a burned out left low beam headlight on my 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS yesterday. I have the halogen (2006) type bulbs. Today I purchased two new low beam bulbs and installed both sides new while I was at it. I had disconnected the battery and replaced both bulbs. Now the headlights (both hi and low beam) work perfectly in the auto as well as on manual mode, however my fogs lights now don't work. The fog lights worked last night prior to replacement of the low beam bulbs. So I checked for continuity of the fuse and both fog light bulbs and all were OK.

View 4 RepliesWhen backing out of the garage, it started with a slipping or tires feeling like they were grabbing the concrete. Then came hesitation and/or jumping at traffic lights. This seemed to improve but then a whoop, whoop helicopter noise which seemed to get louder during acceleration. The repair shop has diagnosed it "internal transmission problem". Is this common? Any estimate on cost to repair?
The transmission did seem to make a noise and possibly slip when going over speed bumps. This appeared to be addressed under warranty. Current mileage is about 130k.
I own a 06 limited and my Check engine along with VSC lights came on. Autozone read the code and it is a P2195 error. According to AZ the O2 sensor cost $500, according to websites the fix is O2 sensor and manifold ~$1800. I don't have that much money. The dealer told me that it was ok to drive with warning lights on. I checked the MAF sensor and it is clean. The O2 sensor or A/F sensor Stuck Lean - bank 1 sensor 1. If I want to do the work myself, any diagrams, picts, instructions etc......
View 8 RepliesMy 08 center brake light stopped working. I already bought a new one and my mechanic will install it. He said some of those LED brake light needs to be reprogrammed after installation at the dealership but he is not sure until he get it installed. Does the LED assembly needs to be programmed after installation?
