I noticed for the last couple weeks, my wife's 05 Limited has developed some kind of buzzing sound around the dash on start up.
In the morning, once I get in and press engine start, there is a buzzing, d...zzz..d....d..zzz.zzz.... noise coming from the dash area. I turned the car off and restart, it went away. It happened once a while. This morning, same noise, I kept on driving, probably after 30 sec, it stopped..
I have totally insulated my 2013 Avalon XLE with the sound deadening materials. Now, I can hardly hear or feel any engine noise or vibration at any speed unless I really accelerate the engine hard. I have also insulated my wife's 2012 Camry LE but I have not been able to eliminate the typical 4 cylinder engine buzzing sound and vibration intruding into the cabin. I am wondering if the Avalon Hybrid does the same once the 4 cylinder engine kicks in even though it is better insulated than the Camry.
View 1 RepliesAfter searching the forums about other owners with the dreaded rear shade buzzing, I am trying to located the fuse to disconnect the rear shade. I will remove the rear seat if I need to but would rather not go through the hassle.

I occasionally hear a buzzing sound in my driver side door. I turn down the radio to make sure it wasn't the speaker. This noise only last for a few seconds then goes away.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 Avalon Limited. A couple of weeks ago I put the car in reverse and I started hearing this loud buzzing noise coming from the rear window area. I narrow it down to the rear window sunshade. It also makes this noise when pressing the button to lower the shade and maybe sometimes rising it. I know it has something to do with the relay or motor when the signal is sent to it to lower it, because a lower the shade signal is sent when the car is put into reverse or button is pushed. How to find the motor or relay without taking the rear seat out. Right now I would rather just disconnect it to stop the annoying buzzing noise. Where can I find a service/maintence manual to maybe find out how to disconnect it.
View 14 RepliesThere is a constant buzzing/clicking sound that seems to be coming from my navigation in the dash. It makes the noise all the time, not just at random times. It sounds as if the nav is trying to load something constantly? It is really strange, also sounds like a computer when you first start it up with the clicking and buzzing.
View 8 RepliesI have recently started to hear (at frequent intervals) a loud buzzing sound that can best be described as a phone vibrating/buzzing while its on a table. The sound happens every few minutes and is pretty annoying. It seems to be coming from around the navigation area or glove compartment - i cant pinpoint it. I turned off the radio and AC and the sound is still present. My Navigation Wood cover has been STUCK for a few months (doesn't come out and shut nor tilt) but not sure if that is the cause here. What can be causing this sound?
View 14 RepliesToday while driving form CT to Maine my 2004 Legacy started making a buzzing sound. It was on the right of the dash near the corner of the windshield. It only happened once we went around 75-80 mph (Mass Pike, we were going with the traffic flow). I called the dealer since I got the car only a month ago. They said they'd have a hard time figuring it out since they can't take it up to that speed. My husband thinks it might be the speedometer cable.
View 3 Repliesok this has me stumped I get this buzzing/humming/vibration sound from what seems like around Defroster passenger side but it is not all the time only at higher speeds and it it intermittent . I have removed cabin filter and cleaned filter box and checked for a leaf or something even sealed somewhat the plastic shield that covers the cabin filter. I really don't want to rip dash apart but it is so annoying

View 14 RepliesI've had my Avalon at the Toyota shop more than 12 times with the same problem...a/c light on dash flashes off and on. The A/C system shuts down. Sometimes the command center says check A/C.
We have gone through the replace game, compressor twice, relay four times, too much refrigerant-to little refrigerant multiple times and loose wire multiple times.
This is supposed to be a Toyota Certified car if that means anything. The car has 86,000 miles.
I have had a 2000 f250 crew cab for little over a year now. Two previous times, after heavy rains, the cabin light would blink on and i would get a buzzing sound under the dash. I would solve the annoying buzzing sound by opening and closing the door. After a few times, it would work, but my clock and radio could go on without the key in the on position. The next time i used it, no problems... so i put that worry in the back of my mind.
This morning it rained really heavy, sideways type of rain. I opened the door and noticed a small puddle on the vinyl floors right where my left foot goes. OH,oh i thought, but the truck turned over and ran like normal. I picked up a heavy load of hickory in the bed and hopped back in and noticed my speedometer jumping from 0- 30 when I was going about 35. The OD light was blinking, but the transmission shifted normally. I got up to about 1700 rpm and the speedo was barely jumping at 53-55. I make another stop to unload the wood and go back home and i get an intermittent buzzing sound on the way home and no speedo. OD light would start blinking before i hit 2nd gear. I also noticed the odometer not working (speedo related, right?)
I got home and took the fuse relay cover off and found that if I would remove the #1 relay "plug" (black square box 5 prongs) that dreaded buzzing sound would go away, checked it out , plugged it back in, buzzing back on. The clock light still stays on and radio will turn on without the key. I think that water obviously leaked in over something electrical and i have been searching this and other forms for a couple of hours. I am within a couple of weeks of saving up enough to buy the gauges, exhaust and possible DP Tuner and now this happens?
I have a 2005 limited with 45000 miles. It sits in the garage most of the time. A couple of days ago I went shopping and I noticed the area around the passenger airbag was shiny. I could only see it when the sun hit just right. I wonder if it is the defective dash.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2011 Limited and the center console and dash around the nav system is very brittle and makes a crinkling noise when touched slightly. I can pop the shifter bazel and all the surrounding plastic off with a slight finger pressure. Over bumps and when I'm driving with side pressure from my legs everything makes noise.
View 8 RepliesWhen I turn the car on, the sound to the radio will not work. Occasionally the screen will light up but will have no information on it. Sometimes it will turn on just fine and have all the info. Regardless the sound never comes on. All other functions are working fine like the controls for fans and climate control.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2011 Limited that I take frequently to a local car wash; it is a self serve, brushless system, the only one in this small town. The other day, January 20 to be exact, as soon as I exited the car wash, I noticed that the satellite radio would not play, i.e., there was no sound on any of the SAT stations. I noticed on the video display that the title of the piece and composer (it was Symphony Hall, Channel 76) did display, just no sound. I changed channels with the same result; the display showed what was playing, just no sound.
I shut the radio off and turned it back on with the same result. I then changed from SAT to local FM and was receiving sound. I also tried local AM stations and got sound. When I switched back to SAT, there was still no sound. I drove home with the radio still set to SAT with no sound and turned off the car in the driveway; it was less than 5-10 minutes to home. For the heck of it, I started the car again while still in the driveway, and, voila!, the SAT stations were now giving sound.
What occurred, i.e., why there was no sound on the SAT stations. As said, I have used this same car wash for 2 1/2 years with never a problem of having the SAT stations work correctly after exiting the car wash.
I just recently purchased a 2006 Avalon Touring. Its been a week now and there has been a loud rattling sound in the rear end of the car. It begins to sound on low RPM, but as soon as i hit high velocity, the loud rattling goes away. Note, sometimes the whole car feels like it would shift to the right; when making a left or right turn. Little scary feels like it's about to flip over.

It stops once the engine is warmed up. Is that most likely a tappet?
88,000 miles... I bought it two months ago with an extended warranty.
For the past couple of months my 2005 Avalon XLS has developed a clicking or knocking sound when I am turning right. I especially notice it when in reverse and turning right. Not only can you hear hit somewhat, but I can feel it vibrate through the brake pedal. It does do it while driving, but it is more noticeable when in reverse. It is also most noticeable when moving at slow speeds, such as in parking lots. It will also do it if the car is angle parked and the wheel is turning right.
Thus far my mechanic has replaced the struts, the linkage assembly, and done some work on the steering column. I'm tired of paying my mechanic to simply swap parts.
My 05 Avalon Touring rear brake sequel quite loudly when reversing any time of the day, after that no sound throughout the whole day going forward or reverse. It only happens if the car is parked for a while, as in 5 hours or more. I checked out the breaks and the pads still have quite of life left in them, and the rotors are still in great condition. I also took them to sears auto center (only place I can actually trust), they said I don't need any brake services for a while and everything is great.
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2008 Avalon with about 136,000 miles on it. Lately the hvac fan has been making a slight ticking sound that increases/decreases with the change in fan speed on the ac/heater setting. The other week it just didn't work all together until I tapped it lightly and it started back up. The ticking is starting to get worse.
I'm thinking of replacing this myself as the dealership wants about 400 for this and I can get a replacement fan assembly for about 120 online. Do I just remove the glove box and crawl in the passenger floor board area to do this or am I looking at some dash removal?
