We just purchased seemingly well cared for 2009 Avalon XLS. Navigation system is showing a DVD error (unable to read). First we thought it was missing the DVD then we discovered the DVD port in the truck and through some trial and error got the DVD (#U52) out. We are proceeding with the logic that the DVD is bad.
View 6 RepliesIs there a simple way to stay on the Audio screen instead of showing the Navigation map? If I hit Audio it ends up going to the nav map after about 10 seconds. I don't want to turn off the screen completely.

View 4 RepliesMy 04 navigation unit started coding check DVD and error; I took it to my dealer who advised that the Unit is defective and is causing a ridge to form on the control disk. Dealer advised to call the Toyota 800 number due to my 36K warranty is gone. Called toyota and they referred me back to my dealer who is giving me the stall.
View 30 RepliesI've had a 2012 Limited for a few months now and love it, especially the quiet nature of the interior cabin. Ironically it was because of that I started to hear a noise that has become quite irritating. It was clearly coming from the CD / Navigation system and began (or at least that's when I first noticed it) after I installed a music CD for the first time. The noise sounded like the CD player was constantly searching for a CD so I filled all 4 CD slots, but the noise continued. I called my dealer and of course they have never heard of this issue before (do they take classes and rehearse that line, they deliver it so convincingly no matter how ridiculous it makes them look!) I have now removed the Navi DVD and that is clearly the source as the noise has stopped. My question, is this normal or do I have a service issue here?

I just purchased this Avalon and noticed this morning as I drove and listened to music that the volume keeps going up and down as I accelerate and decelerate. I cannot find anything in my owners manual on how to turn off the automatic volume control.
View 2 RepliesSo of course it has to happen 3 weeks after my warranty expires. My CEL comes on and I have it read and the result is P0440. I find out that my wife has a habit of topping off the gas tank and so I am thinking that she has probably ruined the charcoal canister. It is something easy to replace?
I have an 06 limited edition... Yes, she will not be topping off any gas tank anymore.
2006 Toyota Avalon 72000 miles
Plugs and coil have been switched between Banks 1,3,5 with 2,4,6 code P0355 shows the same cylinder 5 after the switch. What's the difference between a PCM and ECU and which one do I have.
I own a 06 limited and my Check engine along with VSC lights came on. Autozone read the code and it is a P2195 error. According to AZ the O2 sensor cost $500, according to websites the fix is O2 sensor and manifold ~$1800. I don't have that much money. The dealer told me that it was ok to drive with warning lights on. I checked the MAF sensor and it is clean. The O2 sensor or A/F sensor Stuck Lean - bank 1 sensor 1. If I want to do the work myself, any diagrams, picts, instructions etc......
View 8 RepliesI try to do my own maintenance. I have a 2006 Avalon Limited. This has happened twice recently, using cruise it has kicked off and gives me the VSC light and the check engine light and cruise error, when running codes I get the following P0138 & P2195 both have to do with the O2 sensor on bank 1, and P1578 & P1201 which are brake malfunction. I have been searching the Internet for any information on what could be causing my issue with no luck. I have a 3000 mile trip and need to figure this out soon.
View 14 RepliesI have a CEL on my 2007 Avalon so I decided to take it to Autozone to get a scan. Error code P0015 was returned. This code has to do with B Camshaft Position, Timing Over Retarded (Bank 1). I've done a little research and I've read that this could possibly from a dirty screen on the Oil Control Valve, the OCV itself, or the Cam Position Sensor. Before replacing parts, what I would like to do first is to check/clean the screen on the OCV. Secondly, I would like to swap the Cam Position Sensor to a different bank and see if the other bank throws an error. If the other bank throws an error, then I know the sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. With this said, I am having trouble locating the OCV and CPS. Where the valve and sensor is located. A diagram would be useful.

View 1 RepliesI have an '05 I bought 3 years ago and any time it sits outside and gets rained on, the VSC/check engine light comes on when I start it and it doesn't go away for 2-3 days at a time. The frustrating part is that any time this happens, I get the E3 error with the cruise control even though there's not a drop of water to be found anywhere.
View 6 RepliesI received error code P0031 on my 06 Avalon the other day. It states that the HO2S (Heated Oxygen Sensor) is bad. Bank 1 Sensor 1. I located the sensor but have a few questions...
Just to give an over view for those that don't know where these are, there are 4 sensors the one in the front on the manifold (upper - B2, S1), (lower - B2, S2) and the rear manifold (upper - B1, S1), (lower - B1, S2).
All of the sensors look the same with 4 wires. what the part number is for the sensor? Also since this is the hardest one to get to, I would like to know where the wire routes to. I found the wire up to the connector on every other sensor except the one I need (B1S1). It looks like it runs towards the top of the engine but from the top I don't see it.
Our 2007 Avalon with 65xxx miles on it was skipping and running rough this morning. Running a scan with my VAG-COM gave me these codes.
Mode 07: Pending emission related fault codes Address 7E8: 2 Faults Found: P0305 - Cylinder 5: Misfire Detected P0355 - Ignition Control Circuit for Cylinder 5: Malfunction
Would you say it is time to replace the Coil for this cylinder, or should I do more troubleshooting first?
From what I've read on this forum, it appears cylinders 1, 3 & 5 are at the rear of the engine and are a PITA to change. Is there a good write-up or video on how to change these at the rear of the engine?
The 2005 Avalon has 48K miles and it's been running well without any issues, until today.
Driving in city traffic, max speed is about 30 ml/h, The "Check Engine" light and the "VSC (Vehicle Slip Control) Off" lights came on. I did stop the engine, restarted after couple of minutes and the same lights stayed on. The car ran just fine, no noticeable difference in performance.
With the OBDCOM reader, the Avalon has this code:
P0351 232
P0351 Ignition coil A primary/secondary circuit malfunction
That seems to indicate a malfunction for cylinder A, or #1, ignition coil that has nothing to do with the "VSC" AFAIK. Is this a misread by OBDCOM reader, or the Avalon is confused?
The code had been reset via the OBDCOM reader, the car runs fine, neither of the lights come on now. Should I do something about coil A, or just wait until the code comes back?
I know that if the shifter/transmission is set to "S" then it tends to use the engine as a braking system sort of like a manual transmission. My problem is that it does this while in "D" (drive) for about 5 seconds and then it back to normal as in it's like it's put back into neutral. I read the manual and it states that when you place it in "S" mode and then back to "D" mode it retains some of the "S" features such as engine braking, but in our 09 Avalon XLS, it does this all the time while in "D".
Question: Is this normal for engine braking for about 5 seconds while in drive mode?
If so is there any way to get it back to a normal automatic drive mode where as when you release the gas pedal it coasts without engine braking?
Where can I get body side moldings for an 09 Avalon.
The door sides are quite exposed to door dings...
On my 09 avalon I always fill up the tank with premium gas. Got 225 miles out of it and the gas light came on. Went to fill up again and it only took 15 gallons. I googled it and our tanks are 18.5. Is my light coming on to early? Is there still 3 gallons left in the car when the light comes on?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2009 Avalon XLS with about 60,000 miles. While my wife was driving home from work today the following happened:
AC compressor off (blows hot air), temp gauge not operating, abs light on, brake light on, avg. mileage and distance to empty display displays blanks, shift indicator on dash not lighting.
Rest of dash works fine, audio works, lights work, car runs fine.
I tried finding a common fuse, but really don't know what to look for.
