I was driving home from Las Vegas and my avalon just randomly slipped out of gear. I pulled over and put in into park and back into drive and it started to roll backwards the fluid is full and clean.... I bought this car 6 months ago and it barely hit 90xxx miles...
View 7 RepliesI bought a 2011 Avalon at the end of last year and it just turned 20K. When I'm going at least 50 mph and straight it will randomly have an uncertain steering feeling like it wants to wander left or right. It reminds me of being in a strong wind or when you're traveling on those certain parts of the freeway that have those little lines parallel to the lane markings.
The latter is just the tires and normal for the tread. (My 2002 had the same thing when going over the lined section of the freeway and went away when I changed the tires). However, this is happening on normal freeway without those lines. It will happen for awhile and then just go away for awhile. I've had the car aligned and the tires rotated and it didn't change anything.
Very strange issue today. While driving in stop and go traffic (Auto Sport Mode). I noticed the car was starting in 2nd gear. Next stop I switched over to M and it would still not downshift to 1st even with the paddles or shifter. Once I started moving I could manually downshift just fine. Car seemed to shift normal. Eventually got the VSC / CEL . Here are the codes:

All of the codes cleared and did not reappear while idling. I have not driven the car yet. It also goes back into 1st now while stopped although I haven't tested coming to a stop. Will do that tomorrow
One thing to note that was out of the ordinary today. For some reason I was absolutely freezing (which should be impossible this time of year in SC) so I turned the AC off before this started and the idle dropped very low (400 - 500) which I seem to remember being normal but I almost never run with my AC compressor off unless I'm in race mode and I'm usually not putting along in stop and go traffic if that is the case. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but perhaps the low idle caused a voltage issue which tripped the codes.
I drive a 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8T 6 speed O2M transmission.
I was redlining 1st 2nd and it wouldn't go into 3rd tried 2-3 times finally did. but I believe it went into first instead! I think I was driving like 50-60 mpg I don't know. Anyways it JERKED BADLY. I think right after it started making a noise. sounds like the manifold or downpipe gasket. I know the flex part of my cheap downpipe started like tearing and ripping, so I thought that just broke thru. maybe I don't know. I drove the car home. tranny worked flawlessly. every gear very smooth like always. (redline tranny fluid). at home I jacked it up took the bumper off. and listened where the sounds were coming from. not power steering. it sounds like a hose is loose. but I checked nothing. I put my ear next to the tranny. sounds like it coming from there. nothing changes when I depress the clutch. when I start driving the sound goes away I think. can't hear the cause of aftermarket exhaust. and stage 2 chip tunning APR 93.
After all, that believing it the downpipe. I put everything back on and drove it about 10 miles and this other sound came in. happened in 2nd after like 4-5krpm. maybe it was there from the beginning. I drove it slowly under 3k. but this sound is like rattling and kinda vibrates the clutch a little. it happens after I accelerate and take my foot off the gas pedal. kinda when slowing down. I drove parked the car 2 hours later drove it home and 2-5th gear was making this rattling sound now.
I don't know what to do. I need to drive a car. should I drive it or not? do I need a new tranny/ is it fixable? should I park the car and take the tranny off/
how tightly are the flywheel bolts suppose to be tightened? something loose?
I did an auto to 6-speed swap.
I have a 2010 GTI and I got the APR 93 octane chip about 6000 miles ago. The other day I pushed the gas to pass a car on the highway in 6th gear and it sounded like my clutch slipped a bit. It made me quite nervous as the car only has 10,000 miles on it. I'm hoping maybe it just got glazed over a bit.
All of my other cars had manual transmission so it's not my driving skills and I don't beat on my car either. My last 2002 GTI had 150,000 miles on it when I sold it and 140,000 of those were chipped. Never once did that clutch slip.
We have a 2007 Limited that we love everything about except the way the transmission downshifts to first gear when it seems to me it should stay in second. My inlaws have a 2007 XLS and it doesn't do this. This is our third Avalon and the only one to do this. The dealer we bought from says this is normal but I strongly disagree. Is there a service bulletin on this or what else can be done.
View 2 RepliesFor some reason when GX470 is parked, it does not want to reverse when slipped into gear. I have to apply a some pressure on the gas pedal and than it moves with a loud thud like noise, I have noticed it when the GX is parked for 24-36 hours.
We leave here in N-CAL and weather cant be an issue. Besides it always parked in the garage.
Wondering if this would cause any wear to the clutch or anything but was in gear 3 about to upshift but my foot slipped off the clutch and the car didnt jerk the rpms just went back to where they were. Curious if that would do anything
View 6 Replies I'm not impressed with our 2007 Toyota Avalon XL with 65K miles that we bought from my parents 2 years ago with less than 40K miles. It's on it's 3rd set of tires, 3rd set of front brakes, it has a left front clunk that nobody can find, we just replaced the 3 rear coil packs and 6 spark plugs and now the transmission is not shifting properly. It is most noticeable when you come to a stop after driving at a moderate RPM.
The transmission clunks hard into low gear. Other times it will not downshift if you are coming down a long hill. I've checked the fluid level and it is good.
On my 2012 Avalon, moving shifter to the left of "D" for manual mode causes a downshift to 4th gear. Is it supposed to do this? For me, this would be poor design in that I may be setting up to pass, but not quite ready to downshift to 5th yet. And even going 60mph it still gets 4th... Or I may be going to climb a mountain (as I was going to Colorado last week) and only need 5th, not 4th. So I have to upshift to 5th AFTER I move to manual mode..

View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Touring with the HID headlights and auto leveling which appears to be standard. My issue is that the passenger side mainly, although it does happen to the driver side sometimes, will go out. I have replaced both bulbs which did not solve the problem. I have noticed that it seems to be exacerbated by the auto leveling mechanism. For instance when I accelerate past quarter throttle or go up a hill, that's when the passenger side one decides to turn off. I can turn the headlights on and off and that will reengage the headlights, but when I get to a situation where I'm accelerating or going up the hill the passenger side headlight will go out. 90 percent of the time it happens to the passenger side, although I've seen it happen to the driver side. I'm convinced that it is induced by the auto leveling feature.
View 6 RepliesMy 2008 XLS has 172,000kms on it and has been having a vibration problem. Specifically, the gas pedal vibrates and the whole car shudders when it is between 55-80 km/h and in 6th gear. The shudder/vibration occurs when the car has to drop a gear to accelerate. After it downshifts, the vibration is gone. It has been happening for the past few months. The vibration did go away for a while after I changed the brakes. So, not sure what could be going on there!

I looked at the glovebox manual for seat fuses and came up confused - everything else but what I was looking for...where is the lumbar fuse, or any seat fuses for that matter?

88,000 miles... I bought it two months ago with an extended warranty.
I have to replace the torque strut mount in my 2008 Avalon XLS V6. I can't find the torque specs for the two bolts in my Haynes manual or at any online sites. Also, should I use either threadlocker or anti-seize on them?
