When I turn the car on, the sound to the radio will not work. Occasionally the screen will light up but will have no information on it. Sometimes it will turn on just fine and have all the info. Regardless the sound never comes on. All other functions are working fine like the controls for fans and climate control.
View 3 RepliesWe have a 2005 Avalon that was leaking oil from the oil pan about 8 months ago. Took it into a local shop and they pulled the engine and repaired the leak; everything seemed normal. Fast forward to a couple of months ago and the engine started developing a tapping sound from the valve cover. Over the span of 2 months, the tapping had become significantly more pronounced. It went from barely audible to HOLY $#!% we can hear it from inside the cabin at freeway speeds.
We finally took it to the dealer and the problem was so much worse than we were expecting. They only pulled the front valve cover, but two of the hydraulic lifters had a ton of play in it and there were very large flakes of metal in the oil. They also found whopping amounts of RTV along the seam where the timing chain cover attaches. And it was a ton! You could see goops of orange stuff all over the inside of the timing chain cover seam. While Toyota wasn't able to find the exact cause, the working (and very likely) theory is that the excess RTV broke off and blocked some of the oil ports (and possibly did damage to the pump), thereby starving the engine of oil and causing excessive metal on metal wear.
Was installing my new radio and somehow the lights for the buttons wont come on when the headlights are on. Is there a fuse i can check? Where is it located? I checked under the hood but i didn't see a fuse for dash lights.
View 2 RepliesI have an '05 Camry XLE with the in-dash touch-screen AM/FM CD Nav system. On random cold days I seem to lose my radio reception. When I turn on the radio I receive a lot of static with break-through talking or music. I've tried to change stations using the touch panel, the steering control as well as the manual tuning dial and I still got static.
I've driven to work ~40 minutes and most of them were filled with static and some break-through talking (not of the station I was tuned into though). The last couple of minutes of my drive I did get a station that said it was 98.3 but I was tuned into 95.5. No matter which station I dialed in I still received the 98.3 station.
It seems like the antenna or something in the radio was stuck or frozen. I drove the entire time with the heat blaring on feet/defrost and rear defroster on thinking it might warm something up but that didn't work.
I have an Avalon 2009 with the TMPS indicator blinking for 30 seconds when the car is started and won't go off.
I think this might indicate an issue with the sensor? How do I know which one and how to replace it?
Also, I cannot release the trunk from the button in the car (by my knee) or the trunk release button from the remote.
Does the TMPS light blinking and staying on has anything to do with that?
In the past, when I had a rear signal bulb went out, I couldn't scroll down my window either. Once I replaced it, I was able to.
I wonder if the trunk being locked from automatic release methods is the result of the TMPS light being on.
Must have pushed the wrong button in the dark. Anyway, the TRAC button and the check engine light both lit when I started the car. (push button start). How can I get it off??

View 11 RepliesI have a 2011 Limited that I take frequently to a local car wash; it is a self serve, brushless system, the only one in this small town. The other day, January 20 to be exact, as soon as I exited the car wash, I noticed that the satellite radio would not play, i.e., there was no sound on any of the SAT stations. I noticed on the video display that the title of the piece and composer (it was Symphony Hall, Channel 76) did display, just no sound. I changed channels with the same result; the display showed what was playing, just no sound.
I shut the radio off and turned it back on with the same result. I then changed from SAT to local FM and was receiving sound. I also tried local AM stations and got sound. When I switched back to SAT, there was still no sound. I drove home with the radio still set to SAT with no sound and turned off the car in the driveway; it was less than 5-10 minutes to home. For the heck of it, I started the car again while still in the driveway, and, voila!, the SAT stations were now giving sound.
What occurred, i.e., why there was no sound on the SAT stations. As said, I have used this same car wash for 2 1/2 years with never a problem of having the SAT stations work correctly after exiting the car wash.
Two days ago my 2005 T went in to have a heated driver seat switch replaced. Since getting it back we now have an annoying red light flashing from just to the top right of the Nav screen. Light flashes until either the radio is switched on or engine is started. I've checked the owners manual and forum but can't find any info on it.

In the morning, once I get in and press engine start, there is a buzzing, d...zzz..d....d..zzz.zzz.... noise coming from the dash area. I turned the car off and restart, it went away. It happened once a while. This morning, same noise, I kept on driving, probably after 30 sec, it stopped..
I just recently purchased a 2006 Avalon Touring. Its been a week now and there has been a loud rattling sound in the rear end of the car. It begins to sound on low RPM, but as soon as i hit high velocity, the loud rattling goes away. Note, sometimes the whole car feels like it would shift to the right; when making a left or right turn. Little scary feels like it's about to flip over.

It stops once the engine is warmed up. Is that most likely a tappet?
88,000 miles... I bought it two months ago with an extended warranty.
For the past couple of months my 2005 Avalon XLS has developed a clicking or knocking sound when I am turning right. I especially notice it when in reverse and turning right. Not only can you hear hit somewhat, but I can feel it vibrate through the brake pedal. It does do it while driving, but it is more noticeable when in reverse. It is also most noticeable when moving at slow speeds, such as in parking lots. It will also do it if the car is angle parked and the wheel is turning right.
Thus far my mechanic has replaced the struts, the linkage assembly, and done some work on the steering column. I'm tired of paying my mechanic to simply swap parts.
My 05 Avalon Touring rear brake sequel quite loudly when reversing any time of the day, after that no sound throughout the whole day going forward or reverse. It only happens if the car is parked for a while, as in 5 hours or more. I checked out the breaks and the pads still have quite of life left in them, and the rotors are still in great condition. I also took them to sears auto center (only place I can actually trust), they said I don't need any brake services for a while and everything is great.
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2008 Avalon with about 136,000 miles on it. Lately the hvac fan has been making a slight ticking sound that increases/decreases with the change in fan speed on the ac/heater setting. The other week it just didn't work all together until I tapped it lightly and it started back up. The ticking is starting to get worse.
I'm thinking of replacing this myself as the dealership wants about 400 for this and I can get a replacement fan assembly for about 120 online. Do I just remove the glove box and crawl in the passenger floor board area to do this or am I looking at some dash removal?
I was wondering from the community if they ever hear a "motor" sound or like a "leveling" sound coming from the steering/instrument cluster area after you press the keyless start button (not starting the car). To me I was thinking it's like the car is maybe moving the steering column kinda like how luxury cars move the steering away to allow people to get in and out. But I don't believe the steering wheel is powered since I adjust it using the levers. Just wondering what this sound is for, worried something isn't right with that.
View 6 RepliesIt's a metal on metal rattle sound when I'm going slower speeds and paved residential streets that are a little rough. passenger front is where it seems to be coming from. I can almost know when it's going to do it when I'm coming up on a rough spot on the road. super frustrating. Started noticing if after my mechanic replaced both front springs when my driver side spring broke. Took it back to him and he couldn't hear it and made sure everything was tight. What it could be. Thought maybe stabalizer link but not sure how to tell if it's bad.

What is the maximum size and mounting depth of the front and rear door speakers. Looking on Crutchfield, I would guess that both front and rear are 6-1/2" but I really need to know the mounting depth.
I have totally insulated my 2013 Avalon XLE with the sound deadening materials. Now, I can hardly hear or feel any engine noise or vibration at any speed unless I really accelerate the engine hard. I have also insulated my wife's 2012 Camry LE but I have not been able to eliminate the typical 4 cylinder engine buzzing sound and vibration intruding into the cabin. I am wondering if the Avalon Hybrid does the same once the 4 cylinder engine kicks in even though it is better insulated than the Camry.
View 1 RepliesI've been having this ongoing clunk in the front of my 06 Avalon for about a month now. When I slightly hit the brake i'm getting almost a metal on metal clunk sound from right in front of the drivers side wheel area, or possibly on the other side wheel well area, and not sure if its related but a popping noise when i turn my wheel a certain way it seems.
Replaced:
Both CV axles
Both Rotors
Both transmission mount and engine mount (left and right side)
Dog Bone torque bar on top
Drivers side caliper
Control arms
Struts were replaced 6 months ago, and reused old mounts, so I took it out and replaced the strut mount with the bearing on passenger side only.
Control arms have been replaced 4 or 5 times in 6 months because they keep cracking, they are being installed correctly and still having the issue, they're slightly cracked right now (many tiny little rips in the rubber rear bushing of the front control arms) perhaps this is the problem and they're flexing too far? They're Dorman and ordered off of amazon. I have 2 replacement ones arriving tomorrow and will throw them in.
124k miles. I have had multiple shops look at it and cant figure it out, they said everything is tight. One shop said it was internal transmission.
