Small coolant leak on drivers side when car sits over night. Car has 3.5L engine with 118000 miles. Purchased used a few months ago. Just started leaking a week or so ago. Dash came on with low coolant level. Added a small amount of coolant ( at the add coolant level line) and then started noticing small amounts of coolant under car in the mornings.

One thing I noticed is if I turn off the AC selector switch when I park I will get the drip but if I leave the switch on MAX AC when I shut the truck off I do not get any leaking.
It is definitely coolant and not just the condensation from use of the AC. If I haven't used the truck for a few days or if I have run it with the AC off I will get the drips.
If I run with the AC on and leave the switch in the on position when I shut the truck off it won't leak. I have tried to locate it from looking above and below but can't determine where it is coming from.
I Have A Bad Clunking Sound or Would Call It A Snapping Sound From The Drivers Side Front Of Car. 1998 Aurora. When You First Start Out It Makes That Sound Or Noise So To Speak.i Am Thinking It Is A Strut But It Rides Nice Over Any Bumps And Only Makes This Noise At Low Speed When First Starting Out. I Had Some Asshole Friend Of Mine In My Car A Few Weeks Back That Was All Drunk And Everything Who Decided To Put My Car In Park When I Was Going Down The Road At 45 Mph. The Car Stallled Right On The Spot But Started Right Up. And Only Started Having Problems A Few Weeks Later. Could This Be Related??? Should I Jack Car Up And Look For Something Specific???

The leak seems to be coming from a weep hole positioned between the two bolts of the lower engine mount. The hole is circled in red in both pics.
View 1 RepliesMy wife's SF with 30K miles has developed a coolant leak after it sits over night. It rest on the concrete behind the oil pan. Its only 4 to 5 drops but any coolant leak is not good. I looked around and it looks like there may be moisture down below where top oil filter is(top back of engine). Crap, I hope its not a HD gasket. Are there any coolant hoses that run on top of the engine behind the oil filter? Hopefully its just a hose. I am going to try and set up an appointment at the dealership for early next week.
View 10 RepliesToday I did a oil change (70k). While under the car I notice a small leak from the back side of the engine. When I got home, I had the chance to remove the engine cover to investigate and clean the engine up a bit.
I found that the bolts in the rear of the valve cover had a little puddle of oil around them. I took a T-30 torque bit and was able to get a least a full turn on the rear bolts and about half turn on the middle ones. Fronts were about a quarter turn. Check your valve cover bolts.
I've fixed one source of water that was leaking into the passenger side footwell via the insulation surrounding the A/D drain line, but I still have a leak on the drivers side after a rain, and it's strange. Unlike the leak on the passenger side, this one is not coming along the firewall - the firewall is bone dry. The water seems to be coming vertically straight down, landing on the floor mat, but I can't tell where it's coming from. Not only is the firewall dry, but so is the carpet on all sides of the puddle that collects in the rubber floor mat.
Also, I haven't been able to create the leak by spraying water on the van - I washed it today, for example, and not a drop came in. But we had a light rain last night, and there was a puddle on the floor mat (good thing it's rubber) when I opened the door this morning. I've stuck my head up under the dash immediately after I had found water on the floor mat, but can't for the life of me see any sign of wetness above the location of the water on the floor mat.
And yes, I've cleaned out the drain lines under the cowl in front of the windshield. Where this mystery leak may be coming from?
The truck has 64k miles and has developed a small leak on the engine side of the radiator with no apparent damage. There is no variation on the pressure test and the dealer was able to find the very small leak with dye in the system. It has lowered by about 3/4 of a gallon of coolant over the last couple of months. There are no visible signs of a leak but you smell the coolant when you stop the truck.
View 11 Replies2003 Jetta Gli seems to have a very small coolant leak. The leak is small enough that I don't even notice a puddle on the ground the light on the dash told me it was low. It is the Vr6 motor. Also I don't know if this is the right forum for my car the title says 2004.5 Gli mine's an 03. If this is a big deal just let me know and I'll delete this post and go else where.
View 4 RepliesI've noticed the past few days that my car has been leaking a small amount of coolant. I've only had the car a month, and it has 1300 miles on it. I'm in Texas so it's been about 100 degrees every day.
There's been a few times that I've turned off the car and the fan has stayed on for a few minutes, so it must be getting pretty hot.
I'm assuming this little bit of coolant is just coming from the overflow, but I've never had a new car do this so I'm concerned that there's a problem. I checked the fill level, and it's a hair above the LOW line, so it's within range.
Changing my oil today, been awhile since I had the hood open for an inspection a year maybe about 5 - 6K miles
It's been about 2 years since the prior owner had it in for a service, I recall they had it in right before we purchased it in August 2008

I noticed the inverter coolant level is no longer at full It's hard to see where it's at, actually
It's not below low, and it seems to be at least up to the bottom of the double seam that wraps around the tank, but I can't see where it levels off behind the seam
Should I be concerned enough to take it in to the dealer and pay them to hunt around until they find a small leak, or is it normal to lose a small amount of coolant over the course of a couple years
Should I just buy their high priced Toyota Super Long Life Coolant and top off the extra 1/8-1/4" or so until it's at FULL?
Had a P2181 come up twice now... both on startup on a cool morning. Came on again this weekend. Monday morning I noticed a small coolant leak under the front of the car directly in line with the passenger headlight, but it only leaks if I park the car with the front down a slope. I parked uphill on Monday night and no leak in the morning, but I backed in facing downhill on Tuesday and had a small leak when I checked late last night.
So, last night I broke out the UV/black light -- G12 seems to fluoresce yellow'ish. I couldn't see much, so it is a small leak. There is some wetness on the bottom passenger side of the rad that's dripping over the back side of the front bumper/lip. No wetness around any other hoses, thermostat housing, temp sensor, turbo lines. But that's all from the top view. No time yet this week to get it up on stands to pull the bumper/splash shields for a closer look either.
I am little concerned tho as there's some wetness around the valve cover and when I pulled the oil cap my eyes suggested a bit of fluorescence under the cap and inside the valve cover. I'm a little worried oil and coolant may be meeting up somewhere... And to think... I was just in the process of getting geared up to do brakes and plugs before getting a modest tune (stage 1).
Quick question, my 2007 Santa Fe with 3.3 has developed a small coolant leak. Every so often, I see a few drops on the garage floor and every 6 months or so I need to fill the reservoir with new coolant. So I took it in last Friday at a Hyundai dealership and he said that I need a new head gasket.
So my question is, is that correct? I did a search and most say that if you need a new head gasket, coolant would have leaked into the engine and oil.
When I changed the oil back in June, I don't recall seeing any foam or-or any indication that something is wrong with the oil. Even yesterday, I open up the oil cap and pull the dipstick, every looks normal. I assumed that not all head gasket problems lead to coolant in the oil?
The last couple of days I thought I smelled antifreeze and I had to add about a pint of coolant to the reservoir. So I looked all around today and can't see anything leaking. Nothing on the floor. I suspected the water pump but looked pretty dry from what I could see. Thing is if its the pump, its still under warranty for a few months and 7,000 miles so want to find that pretty quick. Radiator is fairly new also from hitting a coon. Any tips? Not sure if a pressure test would detect a small or intermittent leak in the pump though.
View 7 RepliesI've got a coolant leak on the drivers side of the radiator. I don't drive the vehicle that much because I use it primarily for towing in the good weather seasons. I drive it once a week unless we have snow than I drive it more.
I have seen small amounts of coolant (yellow/gold) in the snow when parked. It does not appear to be very much, but it does concern me.

Where to look for this leak. I looked from the bottom and the top (without access to a lift) and I couldn't see anything revealing.
I did a search but found nothing on a coolant leak. My 07 (57K) has developed a leak on the passengers side of the engine. Not sure if its the water pump (not making noise) or the themostat housing as a mechanic who took a very quick look at it suggested. How hard it is to get to the thermostat housing? Anything else have to come off? I don't have a FSM.

View 1 RepliesI took my relatively well maintained '98 Camry to Texaco Xpress Lube and they changed my oil and air filter. I then embarked on a 400mile trip to Miami. The next morning when I went to start the car, I fogged the entire neighborhood with a thick low-lying white vapor/smoke. It was ridiculous. So, I opened the hood and noticed my coolant reservoir was nearly empty and my oil dipstick was bone dry. Thinking this was awfully strange, I went to inspect the air filter and noticed that they installed a filter that was short by about 1.5" in one dimension and I could see sand, leaves, and twigs in the bottom of the air box. The shop basically put a square filter in a rectangular air box. After some preliminary research, I've concluded that my engine is now completely ruined because of this. From what I gather, the sand in the airbox enterred the combustion chamber and proceeded to grind the internal components to smithereens. Is this a reasonable conclusion considering my engine has never had these problems before. Also, how would I even start to get some rectification?

It is leaking on the back, passenger side of the engine, and while the truck is running it just squirts coolant out on and off...i am guessing it leaks when the thermostat opens. anyways, what is could be? i was thinking lower intake gasket, but i have never seen a lower gasket squirt like that!
View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 expedition 5.4 ltr that has developed a coolant leak. Leak appears to be on top of the engine, in front on passenger side. The area around the front fuel injector (on passenger side) is wet and water is running down and sitting on top of engine (under intake manifold). My first thought was that the heater hose extending vertically from the block hose fitting. I have found no evidence of a leak in the hose but it appears fitting on block may be the source. It has three bolts holding it onto the block. One from the top and two coming up from the bottom. Two of the three area accessible. How to get to the upside down bolt nestled between hose fitting, block and valve cover. It's been a slow leak so far but I know that's not going to last. Runs fine but steams from water on block at stops and when parked.
