I have an Audi 1999, quattro 2.8 liter. I am starting to hear a whining noise (from this morning) when I throttle. Gets louder when you throttle more. Runs fine. The sound comes even if the car is in Park/neutral and is not moving which means that the sound is not from transmission/differential, which is a relief. Where do you think its coming from - fuel pump????
View 11 RepliesI have a 2003 F250 SD with 130K miles. I primarily use it to pull a race car, about 5000 lbs is all. It has all the upgrades, from studs to EGR delete. Ford replaced the automatic transmission in 2005. I'm looking at a truck newer than 2011, but thinking either a flex fuel 250 or diesel. I want it loaded and 4WD, but they seem expensive.
Anyway, I have bad front wheel bearings. I know this because of the low rumble noise and how it acts when I rock the steering. How tough are they?? I build my entire race cars, so I have a well-equipped garage and some ability to cuss, but I don't have a lot of time. A buddy wants to do it for $300 total for both sides plus parts cost.
Also, this is the bad part I really need input on. It has a whining when at light throttle load and above 50-60 MPH. This seems to come from the floorboard area behind me. Gear changes do NOT affect the pitch, but a change in throttle crowding makes it louder and weaker. It has no coast down noise at all, and the noise pitch seems to track the drive shaft speed. It is a whine much like the low gear set in an automatic trans, but it does it in any gear with or without 4WD on. The only thing that affects the level is slightly pushing the accelerator, speed, or weight I am towing.
My TT-RS has a haledex, transmission and drivetrain as the R32.
I picked up my 2013 TTRS about 3 weeks ago now. Man do I love this car! However, about 2 days after I picked the car up I started hearing a really annoying noise coming from somewhere up front in the car. At first I thought I already had a bad wheel bearing, but then realized the noise goes away when I'm off the throttle or decelerating. It's a very irritating rotational whine that increases and decreases frequency based on what speed I'm at. However, it only make the noise when under light throttle inputs for maintaining speed. So if I just hold the car light on the throttle to cruise at say 45mph, it's annoying as all hell. The only way to not get irritated by it is to have the windows open, radio blasting, of AC blasting to overcome the noise.
Audi here in Scottsdale had 5 technicians identify the noise and confirm I'm not crazy. They say they have no idea what it could be. However, they cannot see anything mechanically wrong, and since we can't pinpoint a source, they can't just start digging in for warranty work. Also, since TT-RS's are so limited, they haven't been able to drive another one to see if it makes the same noise. I assume it has to be something that engages when torque is applied, but I'm at a loss where to start. CV joints? I am assuming it's some bearing that compresses in the transmission under power?
I just bought a 2005 fx4 and there is a whining or whirring sound coming from the rear of the truck when I hit around 70km/h. the second i let go of the accelerator it stops.
Today when I got home after a 15 minute highway drive, i got under the truck and felt the differential area. it was warm but not hot. and there was a wet spot on it. i wiped off a drop of oil. there was also a wet spot on the bottom, seemed to be just water? I'm not sure.
Got my tires swapped out and noticed a whining sound coming from the rear of the car when I release throttle >40mph. Applying throttle it goes away. Soundalike it's coming from the driveline. Does the Haldex make a whining. It's loader than I would expect. Believe the roar of my winter tires covered it up.

Now its making a grinding/whining noise when its not in park, it tries to move when I put it in gear but has the grinding/whining noise and is real sluggish. Then after its running for about 5 min it wont move or go in gear at all. I have had reg. transmission fluid changes and was running great. now this. Ive checked the fluid and its full to.
View 7 RepliesI hear a noise that sounds like a bad wheel bearing when I hit 68 mph, and it gets worse when I go faster. I've had both bearings replaced, but still hear the noise. It is directly related to speed...the faster I go beyond 68 mph the worse it gets.
View 19 RepliesI know the whining is coming from the steering pump. Does that mean its going out? the wheels and the steering turn fine... not hard to turn or anything. My daughter is getting this car tomorrow. and i want to make sure nothing is really wrong with the car. it has been sitting outside under deck for over 1 year. i had to pump up the tires, other then that... she started right over no prob. never had the whine before... Looked in the resevoir and looks fine... a little over 1/2 full.
View 3 RepliesI have had this whining noise that I'm not sure what it is. It sounds like its comin from the alternator area. There are three symptoms that are confusing me though, 1st is I only hear this whine as the weather starts getting colder and the colder it is the louder it is. 2nd is it only happens around 1800rpms like when it's getting ready to shift to the next gear. I can get it to whine when I'm parked and bringing the rpms up. 3rd is after 10-15 minutes when the truck is warmed up - no more whine. The truck is used very little duing the summer and I had this whine all winter last year. Alternator appears to be working fine and I do plow a few driveways every storm. Money is tight so I don't want to replace the Alternator an find it wasn't the problem.

View 4 RepliesI purchased an 1999 F250 Super Duty truck last Sept., it ran great all winter, now when I accelerate I notice a whining type noise (that's the only way I can describe it) it only does this during acceleration not @ idle, could this be a bad water pump? However there are no leaks or puddles of anything in my driveway.
View 2 RepliesI noticed my truck makes a high pitched whining noise. It does it at idle and while acceleration up to 40 mph or so. The pitch of the wine increases with RPM'S. It is not the cold start whine issue I have researched on YouTube.
It is in the cold or warmth. No difference. It's always there. My 2012 6.2 did not sound like this at all. I have crawled under the truck and it appears like it is coming from the transmission.
Audi 99 a6 quattro. Motor turns, battery is fine. Engine does not ignite. Spark happens but the engine does not hold. After 5 mins car starts. Once its warm no problem starting. Cold start is the issue. what do you think is issue? fuel injection, fuel pump???. I have seen the car stall on second gear sometimes on high throttle, reduce throttle it will come back on. I am suspecting some issue with fuel injection????

Would control arms make that much noise? I know that is a common problem with these cars. If the squeak is coming from the control arms, can I just grease them?

Recently my fiancée filled up my gas tank and when he did this he continued to pump fuel into the tank even though the automatic shut off trigger had released. In doing so he said he filled it to the point that it was just about to spill out. The first 1/8 of a tank the car drove like normal. Then all of a sudden i very very briefly could smell an odor of rotten eggs. The following morning my car had loss of power to the point that i parked it. My fiancée was reading about how to fill the tank properly and when he did he went ahead and released the gas cap and at that point he said he heard a bubbling noise come from the tank. My car is drivable now but not up to par. It slightly sputters (bogged) at take off still. What else it could be ?

I have a 98 Audi A6. Immediately when I hit the accelerator from a dead stop I hear a slight bang that seems to come from under the car in the area under the front drivers seat. It only happens when I hit the gas and the car starts forward. I'm not putting the pedal to the floor either, just a nice gradually start from a dead stop. This is the only time that I hear this noise, nothing while driving or making turns. The noise sounds like when you might squeeze and empty tin box! that distinct bang you hear. What might this be?
View 8 RepliesIt's a 1999 Toyota Celica GT 2.2L, about 190000 miles and I just replaced the transmission not too long ago. Here's what happened, I was sitting a light, the light turned green, and I pushed the gas and the car stalled. I put it in park, tried to turn it on, and it won't start, but is still turning over, making an awful whining noise. Not the transmission. Battery is good, windows, stereo, etc still work. Terminals are good. Everything is still connected, I just changed my oil about 1000 miles ago, still has oil. Has transmission fluid, actually has all it's fluids, no leaks. No check engine light or any other lights. She did not overheat, if anything was colder than usual, No water in my motor, everything LOOKS good, and I take good care of my car, so I'm really baffled. I just spent my savings on the transmission, I'm not a mechanic, I'm just learning to do things on my own.
View 19 RepliesMy 05 f-350 6.0 is giving me some problems. I have 311,000 on my truck. It had had its share of problems, at 80,000 it blew its first head gasket. Ford fixed that one!! At 199,000 it blew its second one. I had head studs installed this time. At 299,000 I had to replace two injectors, a new turbo, a egr delete kit, a new oil cooler, power steering gear box, and while I was burning 1000.00 dollar bills I put a new edge cts on it. IOne the way out day one it was 95 temp out side, the truck ran great coolant temp and oil temp stayed around 202 to 204.
Day two 70 degrees my o temp hit 235 while the coolant temp went to 210. Backed off the throttle to 60 mph. Coolant temp dropped to 202, but the oil temp stayed around 217 to 220. I can not make the oil temp go above 198 with out the trailer. The other thing that scares me the most is my coolant level dropped about a half gallon!!! It is not blowing any white smoke, there is no coolant smell or leaks that I can see, and the holding tank has no evidence of being over pressurized. The edge system does not give me any codes except for the two for my egr delete.
About 4-5 weeks ago my 2002 F-250 7.3 just died with no warning after coming off the highway and since then it hesitates/dies when hitting a bump or while applying pedal with the A/C on. The code that keeps popping up is the P0344 "CPS" and the code for back pressure sensor... I have replaced the CPS twice "making sure the 1st one was not bad", the back pressure sensor and the tube the goes the manifold, and fuel filter and still having problems... I didn't know if there could be a fuel pump issue or something else?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2003 f250 with the 7.3 power stroke in it. It is factory height on a set of 285/75 16 tires. It already has a reman steering pump and I replaced the steering gearbox today due to the truck having a little slop in the wheel. Since I bought the truck it is dang near impossible to park in a parking lot and almost impossible at a stop sign or being stopped to get it to turn whether I'm on the brakes or not it doesn't seem to make a difference. What else could be affecting the steering on the truck? All the steering components are good. I'm about by to the point of just selling the truck because it's that hard to steer. Especially trying to back a trailer is hard too.
