View 5 RepliesHow to remove the OEM "golf ball" shifter on a 20th AE? I tried everything but it still won't budge. Is there a trick to removing it? Is it a tight press fit or does it screw on?
I have the latest edition of the Bentley repair manual and it does not cover this shifter knob.
how to change an automatic shift knob. Im interested in getting a momo automatic shift knob.
View 4 Repliesjust got my new 2012 Corolla S AUTOMATIC and want to see if this knob will fit my shifter. Any tips on removing the OEM auto shift knob? URL...
View 5 RepliesWhere I can find information on how to swap out the shift know on an automatic transmission in my 2003 Passat GLX? I bought a new knob but don't know how to get the old one off.
View 1 RepliesSo I just installed my short shifter and everything works great, all the gears engage, however, when I put my shift knob on I noticed I couldn't engage reverse because it sits down too low and doesn't allow the reverse lockout to get over the rail and engage reverse. I have to loosen the knob so it sits higher and then I can engage reverse, but it moves around, so I can't leave it like this...right now my plan is to make some sort of spacer for the knob to sit on and then put loctite on it...seems like it would solve my problem. I have a Hyundai Aluminum shift knob and the short shift is OEM so I don't see what could be wrong ...
View 8 RepliesEarlier this year, I worked with my dealer to get a new automatic transmission for my 2007 Accent. I had only had the car for a couple months (purchased used, from my Grandmother who I knew, if anything, had probably been TOO gentle with it.) Only about 40,000km. I found the car extremely hesitant to shift on cool mornings, and allowing the engine to warm up first didn't make much difference. The 2-3 shift was especially late.
The last straw was when, on a frosty morning, the transmission failed to engage 3rd, bucked back out to find 2nd again, and then got 3rd on the next try. It did this a couple of mornings before I was done negotiating with the dealer, who ultimately agreed to supply a new transmission if I paid labour. This despite the car being just outside the 5-year powertrain warranty. I was quite satisfied.
So I enjoy the Summer with no problems -- only the barest hint of transmission "morning sickness", but only if I'm rushing it. I figure "that's an economy car for you". Now that cooler Fall weather has begun, I'm convinced that the new transmission behaves the same way as the first one. I haven't had the "bucking out of gear" problem yet, but the 2-3 shift is already a real dog on cool mornings.
I have an Automatic which i almost hate but that is another issue...it seems that if i am in a lower gear a punch it the transmission seems to slam before accelerating. I figured if it turned into a big problem it is still under warranty. but I am just curious considering ive driven it a year like this.
View 3 RepliesAutomatic transmission fluid change. I can't find any info in the manual. What does Hyundai recommend? What mileage should I change fluid ??
View 4 RepliesI had a 2013 Elantra that I traded in for my new Accent. The last 6 months that I had my Elantra, the transmission was slipping like crazy. Mostly when it was cold, and at lower speeds. I started noticing this while the car only had 20000 km's on it. Personally, I think it had something to do with contaminants in the fluid. I told the dealership this but they just kind of dismissed it and said it probably just had something to do with the ECU messing up the shift timing or something to that extent. They made an "adjustment" but the problem didn't go away.
It got me thinking that since an automatic transmission has so many parts, wouldn't it be fair to say that metal particles from all these newly machined pieces and edges could have some initial deterioration causing a build-up of contaminants? I think a transmission flush would've resolved the issue. That's a lot cheaper than a full tranny swap down the road while the car is still under warranty, isn't it Hyundai? It's their problem now though.
I don't like the way my transmission switches gears, is it possible to make the car change gears with 0.5 revs more then what it is right now... I feel like Hyundai only considered gas mileage for this car and didn't even think about the stress on transmission and engine...
I want the car to switch gears on higher revs then it is right now..

Swap DSG knob in mk7 for that of an A3 or S3 knob. I have searched but could not find anything about swapping DSG gear knobs. I don't know if it's something easy to do but I would like to swap mine for something that you would see more in the Audi as I would like something that is more round.
View 2 RepliesFirst the wife crushes the underbody on a huge rock cutting a corner. Now she spilled a whole pop down the shift lever, and its glued shut - it will hardly move. I know how to get the console off, but How do I take just the 'shift knob' off? I need to get the flexible piece underneath it off so we can wash all the parts.. I have the upper console part off.
View 11 RepliesThe other day the plastic top piece of my shift knob broke off (that had the shift pattern painted on it) and it made me once again want to replace the stock shift knob. I was considering buying one, but other than TWM I can't find any that I really like, so I want to machine one myself. My biggest problem in planning right now is what metal to use, SS is nice but expensive, and how to attach it to the leather and the stick. The only way I can think of attaching it to the stick is with set screws which would be hard to drill.
View 1 RepliesThis has been bothering since the day I got my R. When im in 6th gear and let off the throttle I notice my shifter jolt a bit. Is this normal?
View 12 RepliesI've got a 2001.5 v6 passat w/ auto and my shift knob has this cool burl veneer on it. I think it's real wood but it's pretty thin and it's got cracks on the front and the back. I can't see any simple way to remove the stick so that I can try to glue it. How to do that. But it's a standard tiprtonic shifter ... probably the standard on that model.
View 3 RepliesI went to the golf ball, but I am thinking of going back to OEM. Looking for a heads-up about the process?
View 6 RepliesI am trying to remove the shift knob and the steps are entirely different than the DSG knobs from the GTI; You take just the boot off (not the assembly) then underneath is a hose clamp which needs to be removed. (this is not on the GTI version); I cannot figure out how to get this clamp off; I guess you need hose clamp pliers? And then do you need a new hose clamp? Won't it ruin the clamp?
View 24 RepliesDo the cover on the stock knob can be taken apart, smoked, and put back together?
View 6 RepliesI was looking through the DIY and I couldn't find one that just removes the knob it self. I know its all the same steps to remove everything but everyone just swapped the boot and everything. I want to keep my boot and just change the knob to a solid glass ball.
