Not sure what the deal is, but I was cleaning the car today with the radio on (not the car). All of a sudden the radio turns off. I thought it was the battery. So I go to turn it on and I get *click - click-click-click*. I pick up jumper cables, and go to throw the car into neutral to push it out of the garage, but that shifter is stuck in Park.
View 5 RepliesOk. I replace my alternator on my 1995 Subaru Legacy Ls. Everything went great. Last thing I did was to connect the positive cable on the battery. When I did it sparked alittle. Well when I got into the car to start it nothing. Turn the key nothing. The knob on the shifter won't go in to get out of park. Neighbor checked my battery said it was fine. But nothing will come on. Nothing.No lights. I had problems with my ignition before. Do you think my ignition went out? Honestly don't know what to think. Some one told me that these cars have a secondary security system. If it goes on you cannot move the knob on the shifter and when you turn the key on nothing?

View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Camry with (440K Kms) and automatic transmission. I am the second owner and had this car since 130K Kms so I have been driving it for a while. The car was in great condition but recently, the transmission started to give some trouble where it's gear changes were not smooth. Also, when I would come to a complete stop, trany would go into neutral even though I have not touched the gear shifter and it is still in drive.
I had my mechanic drain and fill transmission fluid since it was a bit dirty. A few days later, the car would park with gear box in "P" but no matter which gear I would put the gear shifter into, it would remain in neutral and won't pick up into any gear at all. So, I parked the car on the driveway. Couple of days later I wanted to try to see what the issue was and now, no matter what gear I put the gear shifter into, it stays into park.
I have a 2006 f150 fx4 4x4. I drove it home from work yesterday and it ran and drove just fine. I got up this morning to go to work and turn the key but the engine won't fire. I turns over just fine. I turn the key to release the trans to put it in neutral to see if it would start like that and the shifter is stuck. I button in the front will not go in. I tried lifting the rear tires off the ground to see if I could free the trans.

View 1 RepliesSo I have a 2010 jetta 2.5 and my key is stuck in the ignition has been for a couple weeks also don't know if it's related but when I start the car I can pull the shifter out of park without pressing shifter button just have to press brake and after I shut the car off if I take it out of park and put it in gear it just freely rolls only stops if it's in park. NOT A DSG
View 3 RepliesMy 2009 Ford Escape shift lever is stuck, not allowing me to shift out of park without using the manual override. However, when I slam my foot to the brake (rather than simply stepping on the brake), the brake switch relay, etc. all engage and I am able to shift out of park. Is this a brake switch relay problem, or is it possible that it has to do with the age of my brakes, etc?

View 5 RepliesI don't know what is causing this but I bought a 2012 elantra last week (500 miles on it so far). Yesterday when I went to start my car the clicker wasn't opening or locking the doors so I had to use my key to open the door. When I got in my car would start but was "stuck" in park and I couldn't shift past park (yes I had my foot on the brake). After about 10 minutes it just randomly worked... Today I was driving to work stopped to get gas and as I was stopping I realized I couldn't shift passed neutral to put in park (I could go back and forth between drive and neutral). While this was going on my windows would not go up or down. Again after 10 minutes the problem seemed to fix itself. What could be causing this?
View 12 RepliesMy girlfriends 2013 Hyundai Accent is having some problems. Yesterday, the Check Engine Light came on, but went out on its own maybe 15 minutes later. She did not feel that the car was running any differently.
This morning, after the car being parked through the night with the parking brake applied (she usually does not apply the parking brake), she observed that it still felt like the brake was applied when she tried reversing out. I told her to pull and release the brake a few times, but she said it was no luck.
What this might be?
We like the car so far (not many miles on it yet so the jury is still out ) but one complaint my wife has: all doors automatically unlock when you shift into park. If she is in unknown territory or unsafe appearing area but needs to shift into park, this is a security issue for her. I can see it being a concern if you pull up to an ATM drive-through too as one normally would shift to park and conduct their business. It's not unheard of (rare, yes) to be confronted by someone trying to rob you while making such a transaction at times when few or no other people are around, etc. It's unnerving to think you're passenger side door might be opened while you are doing business out the driver's side door. I think my wife is more concerned about times when parking in underground ramp; doors unlock before she can survey the area UNLESS she remembers to not automatically shift into park when she pulls into the space. So, whether this automatic unlock "feature" can be disabled?
View 14 RepliesMy 2012 F250 6.7 once again (third time in 2k miles) got stuck in park with no brake lights or traction control. I found that removing the shroud from the steering wheel allowed me to manually activate the solenoid and get into gear but could only drive in manual shift mode.
Something is causing the brake switch fuse to blow. When I replace the fuse all is well for maybe 1k miles then it happens again! After the second time I replaced the brake switch thinking it was the cause but no deal. It happened a third time. The dealer who fixed it the first time could not find the cause.
This is frustrating and downright dangerous! What in the circuit could be causing the short?
Yesterday leaving a restaurant my truck shifted into reverse no problem but when I went into drive the shifter came all the way down to 1st and now the shifter can't go any higher than D and its stuck in 1st gear. The shifter moves with a lot of resistance between drive and 1st but never actually locking into any gear, I've taken the dash apart and I don't see any obvious damage but idk what to look for. I have also disconnected the cable from the column and now the shifter moves freely, so I hooked it back to the column and then disconnected it from the trans and it goes back to being stuck.
View 5 RepliesAt the beginning December I put my brand new winter tires (general altimax arctics) on the factory steelies and put them on the car gearing up for the snow. Not to long after the install I notice that I was getting a very strong engine vibration starting at 3,000 rpms and it stopped around 3,100 rpms no matter what gear I was in. At first I though it maybe just the cold affecting the engine. Well...
Last week I put my summer rims and tires back on for the 1,600 mile trip to MO and back, and like magic, no more heavy vibrations. Smooth acceleration throughout the normal driving rpm range. I just changed the oil and tranny fluids Tuesday after we got back and with the warmer weather the car is running smooth as silk. Still an awesome car with awesome mileage and couldn't be happier.
Well just as stated above...basically when I put my brakes on, my shifter will refuse to go from Park to Reverse. I have to open the little "Shift lock" cap and manually press that button to be able to go to reverse...or sometimes back from D to P. It just started doing this a week ago.

Have a 95 Chevy blazer 4wd automatic on the column. Tonight I pulled in my house put it in park and turned it off. Took my foot off the brake and it started rolling. I noticed it didn't go in to park. I tried a free times and the shifter goes all the way up but the park doesn't engage and the light doesn't come on. I put it in neutral and used the e brake but am wondering what caused this and if it could be a big problem in the near future.

The owners manual indicates that I can get the doors to lock automatically at 20 km/hr. I have tried following the instructions in the manual to make this happen but without any success.
View 14 RepliesI noticed today when my Touareg is running but in park, each time I step on the brake I hear a loud clicking noise coming from the shifter. I assume the noise is the safety lock engaging and disengaging that allows you to put the car in gear while the brake pedal is pressed. I never noticed the noise before but usually I have the radio on. Is it normal to be able to hear this noise?
