View 4 RepliesI was very surprised after the fact that my VW golf has no stick for checking the transmission fluid under the hood. How to add more fluid into the automatic transmission ?
View 1 Replies2003 echo automatic, 168,000 kms doing a routine maintenance, getting tranny fluid changed, is there a filter to change on these cars or is fluid enough.
View 2 RepliesI have an Automatic which i almost hate but that is another issue...it seems that if i am in a lower gear a punch it the transmission seems to slam before accelerating. I figured if it turned into a big problem it is still under warranty. but I am just curious considering ive driven it a year like this.
View 3 RepliesI had a 2013 Elantra that I traded in for my new Accent. The last 6 months that I had my Elantra, the transmission was slipping like crazy. Mostly when it was cold, and at lower speeds. I started noticing this while the car only had 20000 km's on it. Personally, I think it had something to do with contaminants in the fluid. I told the dealership this but they just kind of dismissed it and said it probably just had something to do with the ECU messing up the shift timing or something to that extent. They made an "adjustment" but the problem didn't go away.
It got me thinking that since an automatic transmission has so many parts, wouldn't it be fair to say that metal particles from all these newly machined pieces and edges could have some initial deterioration causing a build-up of contaminants? I think a transmission flush would've resolved the issue. That's a lot cheaper than a full tranny swap down the road while the car is still under warranty, isn't it Hyundai? It's their problem now though.
I don't like the way my transmission switches gears, is it possible to make the car change gears with 0.5 revs more then what it is right now... I feel like Hyundai only considered gas mileage for this car and didn't even think about the stress on transmission and engine...
I want the car to switch gears on higher revs then it is right now..
2012 Accent GS hatchback... Automatic transmission
Trnasmission problems? Plug came off lost fluid. transmission doesn't work.
View 2 RepliesI had a small leak on the side cover of my trans so I decided to replace the gasket and take the opportunity to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. However now I seem to have a pretty significant leak from the trans pan itself. The side cover seems ok.
The filter and gasket kit I purchased was a Wix brand. I don't have a torque wrench, so I just tightened to Germain torque spec (gutentight). However now I worry that maybe it's not the right spec, either too tight or too loose. The kit came with new spacers for the gasket and I cleaned the pan, especially around the lip where it interfaces with the rubber.
I have been knocking my head against the wall trying to get an appointment for an ATF fluid and filter change with no success. The odometer reads 67000 miles.
Those VW tech don't want to touch it unless there is something wrong. Hard to believe. Changing ATF fluid and filter as preventive maintenance?
I have a 2011 Elantra with 73k miles. When the automatic transmission fluid should be replaced? I can't seem to find any info on this. My transmission is starting to shift slightly rough. I've contacted 3rd party mechanics about doing the job, and they said they cant do it since there isn't a place to fill the transmission fluid under the hood.
They claim that the Elantra has a sealed transmission and needs to be done by a transmission specialist.
I recently bought a used 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe 4 cylinder AWD. Does the transmission have a fluid cooling system? If I pull a boat that weighs less than the 1600 pound limit should I drive in "D" or manually select 5th or even 4th gear?
View 1 RepliesI have a '99 Toyota Camry automatic transmission with about 184k on it. I bought it used last summer.I noticed that when I speed up, it is sometimes slow to switch gears. I have to ease off the gas before it changes gears. This also happens when I go from reverse to drive. I experience it more noticeably when I haven't been driving the car for long or on a cold morning. I haven't brought it in yet...
View 6 RepliesI've recently bought a 2002 toyota corolla wagon. I noticed the transmission fluid of the automatic gearbox has been overfilled. This measurement was with a cold and switched off engine and on a level ground. Is this something I should be concerned about and can it cause damage? Should I have it drained to the normal level or is it ok to keep it this way? I didn't come with a manual so I'm not sure if i measured correctly.
View 1 RepliesI have been changing the transmission fluid. It seems the consensus is that unless you are driving under extreme conditions (other than "normal"), it may be advised. I am probably driving my 2006 V8 Phaeton "normally" but I am not sure of its previous life. For example, it lived in hot and humid South Carolina and may have done a lot of highway miles. So I am thinking about changing that fluid for safe measure.
View 24 RepliesAs I was changing my oil last week I noticed that there was a thick, dark green fluid near my front left shock and on the automatic transmission filter. The fluid appeared to be sprayed on the underbody of the car. I am unable to notice any change in automatic shifting or in the front left shock. The photo shows the filter (?transmission filter) on the top, the shock is at the bottom right. This is slightly behind the left front tire. This was not anywhere else under the car and did not appear to be road grime.
View 4 RepliesI have an 04 F350 automatic blowing fluid out under load only. Had it serviced the first time it happened two weeks ago. They found no issues and replaced the fluid and filters. Drove truck about fifty miles, no load, no problems. Took her out this morning in tow/haul mode with load and made it about 20 minutes before I noticed it warming up. Pulled over and it is blowing fluid out the right side of the pan.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2003 Santa Fe 2.4L (automatic) with 200,000 miles. Auto shop is recommending I change my transmission fluid. I've heard that changing the transmission fluid on a high-mileage vehicle is potentially dangerous. I haven't noticed any symptoms of "bad" transmission fluid.
View 5 RepliesSot he automatic transmission has never downshifted correctly for me in my "01 Hyundai Accent 1.6. I am on my second tranny, but they both never downshifted properly. For it to do so, you have to come to a complete stop for it to get back to first gear. If not it kind of bangs into first. Either that or it will dog out in third once you hit the gas, but will go into first. With my first transmission, I replaced the fluid and filter and it still did it. This second transmission has about 60k miles on it with new fluid/filter and does it.
View 4 RepliesSo I have a 2006 Hyundai accent with 75000KM on it. I notice when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear sometimes it will jerk. It feels almost as if it goes to neutral and then sifts, causing the whole car to jerk. It use to only do it when the car was cold (first 15 min of the day) but now it seems to be doing it all the time and getting worse. I have had the transmission fluid replaced, but it doesn't seem to work.
View 30 RepliesWhat is the right mileage to do transmission fluid change on my 2009 prius? Toyota said I don't supposed to do it on that car, never, but i think that's not right. I do lifetime warranty on transmission but still would like to put fresh fluid on transmission. Its about 190dlls at dealer. I currently have 44k miles on it and I am not sure to do it or not..
