My friend told me the other day her car was in overdrive (hwy driving) and suddenly, it shifted to a lower gear. It seems no one knows why. She does have an extended warranty, but the garage might charge her $300 to open it up to see what is wrong. Another friend suggested a clogged filter. Another one, a sensor.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2008 Accent (base model for the most part, no C/C), and my transmission seems to be slipping a bit. The symptoms are: slow acceleration, a delay in gear shifting, and after the 30MPH mark, it takes forever to get up to anything near 60. I just wanted to know if it's a simple solution such as topping off the transmission fluid, or if it's a bigger issue.
View 5 RepliesMy 2006 Elantra (54,000 miles) shifts really, really hard when it's not cold and passes through the 35 mph range -- hard enough to make you glad you've got your seatbelt on. I've taken it to my regular mechanic and now it's in an automatic transmission shop.
My mechanic changed the fluid (twice), and took it through a "learning sequence". The fluid didn't look that bad and he reported that there were no codes to work with. He thinks I'm going to have to get a new transmission.
The AT shop has confirmed that there are no codes to work with and that the problem begins at 143 degrees. They tell me that the transmission is shifting into a higher gear without releasing the lower gear. They tried replacing a couple of solenoids, but that yielded no change in behavior. Now, they're telling me they "think" I need a new computer. I'm just afraid the trial & error approach is going to cost me a boat-load.
My problems started out around the beginning of the year. Mostly, it was the transmission. It would slam really hard when shifting. Worst, sometimes while on the freeway, it would shift on it's own, for no reason, into a lower gear and get stuck. (Happened twice and was really scary).
Along with this, a couple times I would start it up and it would rev really hard, about twice what it normally would.
Usually, with the revving, I could turn it off and back on, and it would stop. A few times I could disconnect the battery, reconnect, and it'd be fine.
As for the tranny, I could turn it off then back on and sometimes that would work. Other times after a few miles it'd work itself out.
I did take it to my local Hyundai dealership. The first few times they couldn't get any code to pop, and they couldn't simulate the issue. It was very random when it'd happen. Luckily, on the 3rd try, they did get the tranny to shift hard. They said it was a bad tranny and replaced it (free due to warranty).
Unfortunately, that hasn't gotten rid of the issue. After a few months... maybe 3K - 4K miles the issue is back. Again, it's very random.
I've had the high revving which I've had to disconnect the battery to resolve. And the tranny is slamming again.
I don't notice any other issues. No engine light (except the one time the engine was revving really high and I had to disconnect the battery to reset, then the light went off).
Sometimes I can go a month with no issues. Sometimes it'll happen back to back days.
Could it be a computer issues? Is that something I can fix/change out as a novice?
I am having a few issues with my 2001 accent. I bought this car for around 500 bucks after my friend hit 3 deer with it. At 101,000 miles the transmission went on it and he had it replace with a new one. At about 113k he hit his third deer and parked it. I bought it off him a few years later and its been running great. It died on me one time and it was the crank position sensor. Now I have about a 156k mile on it and it will not go into overdrive.
I have gotten mis fire codes, I know it needs new O2 sensors, and also P0733 Gear 3 Incorrect ratio. The button on the shifter does nothing, If i press it on or off the light does not come on on my dash. I noticed it was not going into OD this last winter if i dropped it into low and shifted to drive it would no longer go into overdrive until i placed it in park and then drive again. Ive been searching everywhere for an answer I was reading one post that it could be the TPS sensor causing issues but i haven't had time to check the voltage.
I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent with 120,000 miles on it. Up until a few months ago, its been a great little car. The transmission started acting funny by shifting irregularly and then getting stuck in 3rd gear occasionally. I took it to the dealer and they told me that the tranny is shot. The estimate for the repair is $2000.00.
I just can't see putting that much money into this car. It needs Struts, Shocks and a timing belt. Basically what it needs is what its worth if it were running well.
How hard it is to replace the transmission in this car? I have the 1.6L DOHC with the Automatic transmission.
My '07 seems to stumble when it's shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. At first I thought it was me as I spent the last six - seven years babying the tranny in my old Ford by 'lift shifting' but I've found it still does it somewhat when I'm accelerating and not letting off to let the car shift. Is this typical for the automatic in the Accent? I had the tranny serviced not 1,200 miles ago in June or July at Firestone and they assured me and showed me their fluid was compatible with SP III.
This happens especially when the car's cold or just warmed up. Seems to mostly but not completely go away after driving for a good half hour or so.
I've only got about a week or two left on the warranty but I also don't want to dump money into diagnostic fees if this is how these modern transmissions behave.
My 2009 Accent has some very rough shifts from 1st to 2nd when I'm in the low RPMs.
Hyundai performed a transmission fluid flush and the other gears shift completely effortlessly. Is my tranny dying or what?
My friend has a 2007 accent with a manual transmission they said that they were driving and the transmission stopped shifting gears. The clutch pedal still has pressure so I don't think it is a master or slave cylinder issue. They freaked out and turned off the car and now the car will not start up again. Have any of you experienced anything like this before or know on this car where to start looking? I think the issue with not being able to switch gears could be a pressure plate issue but this would not cause the car not to start.
View 6 RepliesLately my transmission has delayed shifting into first when I shift my car into drive on cold starts. It delays for usually about 2-3 seconds then kicks hard into first. The rest of the shifts are smooth and on time. I've tried replacing my transmission fluid, but that doesn't seem to fix it. Is there an actual problem with my transmission? I had the TCM replaced when it would get stuck and not shift. I have a 2009 GLS with around 53k on it.
View 6 RepliesI currently have a 2006 F-250 6.0 with 187,XXX.
My problem that i am having is that the transmission recently within a couple weeks started acting weird about the same time 3 of my fuel injectors started failing. When i start up the truck and put it into drive it takes about 3-5 seconds to shift. Once it's in drive it runs pretty well but it will start shifting out of normal when i go to accelerate. Also when i go to slow down sometime the transmission shifts hard to a lower gear. I also have a video of the sound that it had started to make since its hard to describe.
Here are attached videos and photos. I want to hopefully fix the problems myself so i can learn more about my truck. I am going to handle the fuel injectors here soon since 2 are failing and ones about to these have been causing the truck to shudder at around 47-53 mph but after that its fine.
The transmission is stocked and never been altered, i do admit for 3-4 years I have changed the fluids or filters.
The truck is bullet proofed, sct tuner, upgraded turbo from stock, 4" exhaust, head studs and new everything when the engine was rebuilt and bulletproofed.
I plan on going to ford tmw to have them figure out the problem and hopefully its just solenoids so i can fix it myself. I have a link posted also where you can hear the noise it has been making when in R P and when shifting going down the road and it is a automatic.

2007 Azera 120k miles. Have noticed first thing in the morning when shifting from 4th to 5th gear, I hear a clunk.. Yesterday I heard two clunks when downshifting from 5th to 4th. Tried shifting the car manually today and was able to replicate the problem. After 15 minutes of driving, the problem is gone.Never seems to happen in the afternoon after car has been driven.Transmission fluid is full. Have always changed at the 60k intervals.Fluid is not burnt. Light pink color.
What could possibly be causing this? Is this likely to get worse? How long might I have before the car might become not drivable ? I ask this because I have been considering trading it in for a new car. Now seems to be a good time to buy a 2016 car, since the 2017"s are almost out.
I noticed that recently my 2007 Sonata (108k Miles) is making a knocking sound when it shifts into second gear. It happens only when I back out of my garage and drive down the street and the car is cold. After that there is no more noise, and the transmission is shifting through the gears smoothly.
I recently replaced the transmission fluid, about 5k miles ago and I used the recommended type.
I read other postings with people having the same problem, and in those cases they pointed to the ABS self-check which occurs when you first start out. But this is definitely not my case as the noise is coincidental with shifting into 2nd gear and it only does it when the transmission is cold.
Could this be caused by the fluid temperature or maybe because the fluid has not had a chance to circulate through the transmission and fill all the cavities? Its rather strange thought that I just noticed it in the last month or so, if that were the case I should have had this problem before.

View 7 RepliesSeems like the problems just keep building up. Today leaving work T-reg shifts fine untill it got to 5th gear. It was around 35 mph. Went to give it more gas and it never shifted out of 5th to a lower gear. It did accelerate but even with pedal to the floor it never downshifted. Whats going on. It has done it twice in the past two days. After only having it on the road for less than 5 min each time.
View 6 RepliesSo I have a 2006 Hyundai accent with 75000KM on it. I notice when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear sometimes it will jerk. It feels almost as if it goes to neutral and then sifts, causing the whole car to jerk. It use to only do it when the car was cold (first 15 min of the day) but now it seems to be doing it all the time and getting worse. I have had the transmission fluid replaced, but it doesn't seem to work.
View 30 Replies2007 accent GS 5 speed manual. car has 142,000 miles. Trans popping out of 5th gear under load. interstate driving 65 MPH going up hill. Pops out but goes back into 5th. Car does not pop out of the other forward gears at this time. Car has very good clutch, no slipping. Short shifter, alu. trans/shifter bushing. shifter cables are adjusted correctly. Are my sliders and dog gears for 5th worn out??? Or is my fork bent?? Or both. Do I need to pull trans?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2010 accent blue model with stick shift. been fine for 50k miles. Lately i have noticed an issue where i am in first gear and then when i push clutch in to go into second, the lever won't budge. it does eventually go in but it just isn't like it used to be. it happens say about 25% of the time. Since at higher rpms it won't do it but normal rpms it will.
Also, i just had a new short block installed, perhaps something is binding? If I sit in the car, stopped, i can shift into and out of all the gears perfectly. Maybe my 1st gear synchros are going?
Shifting into gear was a problem occasionally, but lately, within 15 minutes of driving, I start feeling the shifting into higher or lower gear getting stiffer and will not shift into gear.I've shared the problem with couple of my mechanics and it left them puzzled, since there are no leaks or low levels of fluid.

When cold starting the transmission shifts into reverse perfectly, then after backing up the car and shifting into drive it hesitates for 4 or 5 seconds before it engages the forward gear.

Lately I have noticed that the transmission is not shifting smoothly in the lower gears. I have 114K on there. Spoke to my service manager and he mentioned that it may need calibration. Doesn't sound right after all the miles?
