Drive a 2009 accent, 18,500Km
For the last 1 1/2 weeks stated hearing this rattle sound when going over speed bumps, or any bumps/imperfections in the road.
It looks to be coming from the front suspension, I can also feel the rattle a little in the steering wheel, not sure if it was always there but now there is a noise to go along with it now, so noticing it.
2008 Sonata 2.4L ... I have an issue, hopefully minor, but when I drive over bumps I hear a slight rattle in the front suspension. My first guesses are either a sway bar, struts, or tie-rods.
My second issue is the steering wheel isn't centered. Best way to describe it is if you draw a line dead center on the top of the wheel and remember that spot, when driving straight it's about an inch or two to the right.
Whenever I would make a tight, low-speed right turn you could hear two or three solid thumps from the steering rack/front suspension area. I figured this wasn't good for the car only having 600 miles on it at the time, so I took it over to the dealership, and they told me this...
I know a little bit about cars, but what that means. The service advisor told me that it was a "rubber boot or bushing nearly the steering rack that was sagging." I don't really see how that relates to them tearing the glovebox and dash apart...but they clipped something in, I can't hear it anymore and apparently the part is on order.
I have some noise coming from the front suspension. It is a popping/sorta creaking noise. I hear it mostly when turning, but sometimes while going straight. It is not a grinding sound, nor is it a high pitched sound. I took it to my mechanic, but they drove it and could not replicate the noise. They inspected the front end, and said everything looked fine. But I still hear the noise. The car has a little over 40k miles on it. No problems with the tires...no irregular wear, and no wandering. I looked at the front end, and didn't find anything obvious. I cannot replicate the noise just by pushing on the fenders up and down.
View 64 RepliesThe front suspension on my 07 Accent SE has been crunching when I drive over rough patches in the road. The car is at just over 60,000 miles, and I don't drive aggressively. I'm planning on replacing the front struts, but I'm not sure which parts to swap out. I've purchased some Monroe struts, but do I need to replace the strut mounts as well? And are there any other parts I should change while I'm in there?
View 2 RepliesI just replaced both front strut mounts on my 2005 Outback 3.0L. I was 100% sure that it would resolve an ongoing noise/rattle in the front end when driving over bumps and generally rough roads. It worked with some of the noise because the strut mount bearings were shot. But much to my disappointment after putting everything back together I still have a rattle (more like the sound when you shake a shoe box with a tennis ball inside it) in the right front suspension somewhere. When lifted the right front wheel is solid with no wobble left to right or top to bottom so I"m thinking it is not a tie rod but I am not a professional mechanic. Should I take the right front strut back off and check the new mount or is there an easier answer.
View 3 RepliesI have a rattle/loose noise on my 09 Elantra front suspension driver's side when going over bumps. Had a similar noise on right rear and the dealer replaced the struts under warranty and that issue was solved. The service manager is balking at replacing the front struts however because they "look" okay. Front sway bar bushings have been replaced and everything else gone over pretty good. The car has 72K and the mechanic thinks it is probably the strut by way of elimination. Hyundai Canada says final decision is up to manager who is unconvinced about the whole scenario. What the heck I can do next or had strut trouble on the front. It seems there has been a significant issue with the rear.
View 1 RepliesMy 2009 Elantra has a rattle in the right rear that I can't figure out. I read through the other thread that finally pointed to bad shocks.
1. I removed the shock and drove around- rattle continues.
2. I removed the sway bar link.- rattle continues
3. Checked caliper, seems fine
4. Wife drove me around while I was in trunk. The rattle is definitely coming from suspension.
5. Most rattling happens over very small road irregularities, not big bumps.
6. Rattling happens on or off the brakes.
7. Rattling is definitely a metallic sound.
My LS460 recently developed a rattle from the front drivers side. It's triggered more by rumbles/vibrations from an uneven surface rather than speed bumps or large pot holes.
It sounds a bit like a washer vibrating on a metal tray (for what that's worth)!
Interestingly though it gets a LOT worse when the car is in 'Comfort' suspension mode, and is nowhere near as bad in 'Sports' mode. So it seems that having the suspension higher gives this thing more room to rattle.
I noticed in the service history that the front passenger air strut was replaced 30k ago, so I'm worrying that there is a large bill on the horizon.
I have recently replaced all 4 struts in my car with monroe quick struts. I have a 2002 Accord. Everything went wonderful until a few weeks later I heard a rattle from the front passenger side. Its a light "tinny" rattle, almost as if a bolt was loose and it was jiggling around. It doesn't happen every time and sometimes goes away altogether. I took it to my trusted mechanic, and they spend a good 45 minutes inside looking at things and overtightened everything to no avail. I have ruled out a defective strut (as I replaced it with one and the new one does the same thing) and I ruled out the stabilizer bar bushing (brand new OEM part I installed) and I ruled out the sway bar link (also new).
View 4 RepliesI have the 2013 Accent with nasty knocking noises from the front. Have the same thing with my 2009. I opened the hood yesterday to fill the washer fluid and noticed I have a gap between the insulator dust cap, body or frame and strut insulator. I can almost poke a pencil through the gap. I am to think this is not normal. I have about 16000 kms on the car.

View 1 RepliesMy wife recently bought an automatic 2007 Accent. And I'm in charge of fixing some issues, then of course eventually upgrading some parts.
Now here's the first issue. I notice this strange sound like something is loose and rattling coming from the driver side not sure if it's from the inside or under the hood.
Only happens when the car is stopped, brake pressed, and in Drive. Put the car in reverse, park, neutral, no sound. Also no sound when in D but only when the handbrake is engaged and the brake pedal is depressed.
The car runs smooth, tranny shifts good, sluggish acceleration though. I drive a 2.4L turbo car so maybe this is just normal for the 1.6 Accent.
I have elantra 2012 with approx mileage of 47,000 kms. I started to fell that the front suspension becoming noisy while driving slowely on the bumps and rough roads. This noise feels even on steering wheel that this has some connection to steering rod in somewhere.
I had took the car to local dealership here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where the kept the car for about a weak and return it say that the car is fixed, but the noise was there or came back in days only.
Second time, the same thing happened, approached the dealership they took and hand over the car, removing some air from all 4 tires a (which i have noticed). but the problem remains the same.
I have noticed as well that the car is not so stable on the roads while driving at different speeds.

When sitting in a parked position, engine running, and I jog the wheel back and fourth I'm hearing an awful clunking noise from what sounds to me to be the steering rack.
-The noise can not be replicated unless the vehicle is stopped with the front suspension loaded.
-While moving, be it 5 mph or 55 mph the noise can not be replicated.
-Tyrolsport deadest kit installed upfront, no apparent play in the u joint that connects the steering shaft to the rack.
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information about issues with mkv steering racks making noise like I'm describing. Most information pertains to subframe shifting which can't be the case.
I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 SE, and I have a strange noise emanating from the front suspension. It's essentially a creaking sound whenever going over speedbumps etc, that lasts only when crossing the bump in question. There is also a distinct ratcheting/popping sound when I more with the wheel at full lock. I've already replaced the front sway bar bushing, recently replaced the struts and springs, lower control arms, and have not noticed any shaking in the tie rods when I try to move them.
View 2 RepliesSo I started a "quick" strut job on my mothers 98 Toyota Sienna last weekend, after many complaints about a rattling noise on the passenger side while driving on semi smooth roads. I got in and found that the CV boots were gone, and there wasn't much grease in the boots, all the ball joints were loose, and the wheel bearings were starting to grind. So since the car is at 225,000 I ordered the parts and took Friday off. I started the job, and also found out that the inner tie rod boot was completely full of ATF(This cars power steering fluid). There was a massive 2 day struggle with the CV axle being rusted in the motor mount bracket. But I finally got it all replaced and back together.
So all told I ended up replacing the following parts; Power Rack, Inner Tie Rods, Outer Tie Rod Ends, Rear Lower Passenger motor mount, Strut Mount, Lower Ball Joints, CV axles, Wheel Bearings, Lower Struts, Upper Strut Mount, Fuel Filter, Brake Pads, Brake Hardware, Oil Filter, and the Oil. I got it all back together and just finished the test drive ONLY FOR THE NOISE TO STILL BE THERE!!!!! What did I miss? What could it be? Is there something simple I could have done wrong to continued to have the rattling noise? Also the steering wheel is off 20 degrees to the left, I could handle that, but its not my car and my mother says it needs to be fixed... PS I am planning on taking it in for an alignment, but it does drive straight down the road as it is.
I recently bought a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T about a 3 months ago, and have since noticed a couple issues that have come up with it. First was with a squeaking front suspension, but that was fixed by simply lubricating the sway bar bushings.
The second is that the steering wheel seems louder than normal when turning left/right at low speeds, mainly when parking, it sounds like two pieces of paper rubbing against each other right behind the steering wheel like a dry noise.
I test drove another Santa Fe before getting mine for about a week and didn't notice this issue. Is this a normal sound that eventually develops after having the Santa Fe for a while? I'm like at 3,600 miles.
I have a 2002 ford f350 sd crew cab, i have changed the front and rear brakes, since then the steering has gotten sloppy. I was driving around 30-40mph and making a sweeping right turn and the front end was wobbly at a low speed it is fine and on a left turn it is fine. It feels like it is the drivers side tire that is the problem. I have to change the tie rod that is attached to the pitman arm. I don't want to bring it to a shop.
View 7 Replies1) After 10000km the car started to develop some front suspension knocking sound going over potholes. After three trips to a dealer they finally said that it was a loose stabilizer bar which apparently is "very common". They tightened it and the problem seemed to go away. Now after 40000km the problem seems to have came back. I am starting to think that maybe it is somehow related to cold temperature because it seems to get a little better once the car has been warmed up and it has been going for some time.
I don't really care about the noise, but I want Hyundai to fix it if there really is a problem.
2) When driving 40-60km/h with the sunroof open I get a resonant wobbling sound. If I open one of the windows just a bit it disappears. Sounds like a poor sunroof wind deflector design to me. (I have driven Mazdaz and Hondas with sunroofs and none of them had that problem)
3) Whats up with those super heavy 16' aluminum wheels!!!! Is it just me or it feels like they weigh more then the steel ones? The car even feels faster when I put on my winter tires on steel rims.
Other then that the car has been pretty good. I am not getting anywhere near the factory specified fuel efficiency 6.5-7.5l/100km hwy and 8-9l/100km city, but I do drive it fairly hard, so that is OK. It still amazes me though that my 15yr old civic was getting the same mileage with a comparable performance. You would think that there would be some progress in automotive technology....
Truck is an 89 single cab, single rear wheel F350 4x4 with 7.3 non turbo diesel and a c6 trans. not lifted, stock size tires. If you hit just the right bump, regardless of speed, the front end just goes crazy.. tires and wheel shoot violently side to side and its very frightening/dangerous. you can just barely hold the wheel, front end is bouncing and whole truck shakes from such rapid camber change as the contact patch swaps from inside to outside of the tread.
Tie rod end, draglink, steering stabilizer (add on,) shock absorbers (rancho,) and a wheel bearing are all brand new. With each part replaced the shake felt worse (since more of it was transmitted to the steering wheel rather than lost in the sloppy parts) and i took it off the road immediately.
Brand new steering box, put it back on the road, did it again less than a mile away. It rained all day so i haven't jacked the truck up again and really, I am quite sick of this problem.
