What could cause a suspension noise? Dealer says nothings wrong... Going over broken pavement etc it makes a nasty clunk sound sometimes, only at low speeds above 40 kmh... It's as if it goes clunk/crick, then goes away, switches sides then comes back...
View 24 RepliesI was driving down the street earlier today, when I heard (and felt) a loud *clunk* from under the car. At first I thought it was a blown tire from the way the car was handling, but then I heard the grinding/screeching sound. No matter what gear I put the car in (even neutral), it makes the grinding noise and won't move. I've narrowed it to to either a transmission issue or a problem with the drive shaft.

Anyway, the problem does not occur all the time and appears to be entirely random.
When I start my car, on occasion, the car will make a CLUNK sound when shifting from park to reverse or drive. When it does CLUNK, you can feel the car lurch as if something fell out of place. The sound is quite audible, even with the radio on. The sound and lurch is not as pronounced when shifting to reverse. It doesn't seem to happen when going to neutral but is very obvious when going to drive.
Turning off the engine and restarting it seems to resolve the issue. Once I had to restart the engine twice before the clunk stopped.
Attempting to drive when the car does this sound results in increased RPMS. Usually when driving the RPMS sit between 2000 and 3000 but would jump to between 3000 and 4000 when the clunk occurs. Usually, the car will want to crawl forward if I'm not on the brakes but with the clunk, the car need quite some gas to start going forward.
Here's where it gets scary:
On two occasions, while driving on the highway at 100km (65 miles), I'd feel something slip and then suddenly my RPMS jump up by 1000. On both occasions I had to pull over, turn off engine and restart the car and the issue stopped.
Clearly, whatever it is that changes gears is slipping but the fact that it slips while driving just freaks me out.
I have a 2006 accent 1.6l dohc. While doing highway speeds the rpms are very high considering the small engine. There for it give me a result of bad fuel mileage with 480km per 40l tank. I'm curious is there is any 6speed transmission I can swap out my 5 speed with in order to give me that extra gear to bring the rpms down.
View 10 Replies"Clunk" noise when shifting from P or R to D happening to me right now with my '06 GS300. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happened all day yesterday and sounded pretty serious. Took it into the dealer today, still under warranty, and of course it wasn't happening. Tech said he will keep it overnight, let it cool down, and check transmission fluid level which could be the issue. If that isn't the issue they said it could just be a "normal" sound. My wifes 2006 Sequoia shifts smoother and doesn't make a sound when you go from P or R to D ... Don't tell me it is the break pads releasing either because that is just as far fetched as the normal theory.
View 14 RepliesMy 2007 Hyundai Accent gs shakes really bad while I am accelerating at lower speeds. I thought the front driver's side tire was loose or possibly had an air bubble, but could find no evidence of such. The rim and the tie rod looks fine, but it is shaking bad. It pretty much stops shaking when i reach higher speeds (60+mph), but when I am stopped and need to accelerate or turn it gets frightening.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2006 Sonata LX with 91,000 ,miles and today it starting making a clunk sound when I would accelerate normally as it was going from 2nd to 3rd gear. My question is this: I have 91,000 miles on it and have owned since new in 2005 (8 years). Does it sound like a transmission problem and would a transmission problem be covered under the 10 year, 100,000 miles warranty?
View 4 RepliesSo I just got a bunch of work done on my car: the timing belt, spark plugs, serpentine belt and water pump were just replaced. I had the oil changed, the fluids changed, new front tires, and an alignment all about a month ago, but now every time i turn my car on there is a squealing noise coming from my engine (i assume a belt). Then when i get to higher speeds the entire car shakes, but more so on the drivers side. I have also noticed my brakes just starting to squeal as well, but the shaking was occurring before that. What it might be?

I have a Lacrosse that has 110,000 miles on its engine. The car has has regular maintenance and oil changes at suggested intervals ( 3000K). 2000 miles into this oil change, The engine developed a clunk type sound. I checked the oil and it was dirty so I took in for another oil change. I was quite surprised to hear that I needed a new engine immediately. They could not tell me what had failed but I was in need of a $4000.00 engine transplant.I requested that they change the oil and give me back my car. I have taken it to another shop and they concur with shop one. Shop two took it to a third shop while they had it just to confirm. After the oil change, the repetitive clunk became a persistent tap. Is my engine really going to implode in the near future? Is there anything that can be done to extend the life of the car?
View 18 RepliesFor the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
My radio hasn't worked for over a year. I've gotten used to driving with my headphones on, but now I want to get to the bottom of the problem.
I have an 06 Accent. The radio powers on and I am able to flip stations and put a cd in and out. I just get no sound.
I tried checking the audio fuses. I can't check one of the fuses because its connected to the yellow memory fuse. I can't get the fuse out without breaking the plastic case. Is there a way to remove the fuse without breaking the case?
Another thing I just noticed is when I turn on the radio I hear a pop coming from the left rear speaker. I don't know what that means. How to get sound back.
[URL] .... You have to crank your speakers to hear properly, the mic in my phone was trying to cancel the engine noise I think... Someone suggested an exhaust hanger in another thread, I still have to get under the car next oil change and check that.

Is the squeaking sound normal for these cars, the belts visually look ok but a bit dry. Should I just change all three and be safe?

View 4 RepliesAlright so my car is up to 112k miles, other than oil change, a battery,tires, and a new ignition (tumblers fell apart somehow) its had zero maintenance really done to it. Which I know, this means its long over due for things like spark plugs, timing belt, and other mic. stuff. Its almost all highway miles, and really has no problems. I haven't put much into it because it hardly gets driven in the summer since I ride my motorcycle. The only issue is that Indiana has had a lot of rain this year so ive been driving it more.
The Problem- for months now its made a light ticking sound on start-up for about 30 seconds, and it fades away. If I rev the engine the sound gets faster, but still takes time to go away. As of Recently, the sound has gotten louder for about the first 10 seconds, and I'm worried it may become a serious issue and leave me stranded because I drive about an hour one way to work every day. So before I start throwing parts at it, where should I start?
Timing belt?
Valve Adjustment? (not sure how to do this but I'm sure there is a guide)
Plugs?
No I'm not running a FRAM Filter, its a Mobile 1, with full synthetic oil changed about every 6-7k miles. I plan to do the belt and spark plugs as soon as I get some consistent time off, but that may not be until it gets cold again.
Over the past few weeks, I have noticed a clicking sound coming from the right rear brake when they are moderately applied when stopping. Doesnt seem to happen under light braking. I figured something in there must have gotten loose so I got to taking the drum off to inspect and clean the insides, or see if anything was broken. Everything seemed to be in order, inside of the drum looks fine as do the shoes, Nothing is really jumping out at me as a cause to this noise. I hit the brakes with the shop vac to suck out any brake dust I could get.
Then, with the drum off, I had my fiance apply the brakes a few times, and the parking brake, just so I could see if something in there was not operating as it should. Heh. I dont think you are supposed to do that with the drum off. The shoe adjuster fell off the shoes (#2 below) So I had to get that back in place and I am pretty sure I have it in right. I go to put the drum back on, and the pads are now too far apart and it wont go back on.
So, I decide to try opening the bleeder valve on the brake cylinder to see if I can get the pads to move in at all. it drips but I cant get the pads to budge. Then I shortened up the shoe adjuster all the way so I could get the drum back on.
Now my parking brake lever, I have to pull it waaay up to even get the parking brake to engage. I figure I have to go back and crank that adjuster out some so the shoes engage sooner. Also, I probably got air in the brake line when I opened the bleeder, so I have to bleed the brakes for real.
Heard a wining noise from the front end when I accelerated about 4 days ago, fast forward to today - it kept getting worse and worse, turning into a grinding. The mechanic said to replace the power steering line and something else around it..

View 14 RepliesI just wanna know what is this low pitch buzzing sound on my left headlight when I switched key to ignite? When im outside the car, i can hear it in my left headlight. But when im inside the car, i can here it inside the high&low control of headlights (with numbers 0 1 2 & 3).
Before, when I am adjusting this control, the sound suddenly disappear for a second then it comes back. When im trying to push this control, the same. But now whatever adjustment or pushing to the control i am doing, the sound is still there continuously irritating to my ears.
My car model is Accent 2008....
I have a 2010 Accent. My Accent has a tapping sound when the engine is cold. I have read on this site that others have had this problems and it was the chain tensioner. I was wondering if this was something Hyundia would fix for free or how much it cost to get this fixed. Is there a recall for this problem? There appears to be a problem with a chain tensioner on the 2010 model of Accent.
