I have a 52 Reg Accent MVi and, occasionally when changing down into 1st gear, My gear stick sometimes doesn't want to go into place, or it will go into place but the car will still be in neutral.
Also, sometimes, when it feels like it hasn't quite gone in right, and i lift off the clutch, the car gets stuck somewhere in between gears and cant move, and i have to yank the gear stick (quite hard) back into neutral.
I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent with 120,000 miles on it. Up until a few months ago, its been a great little car. The transmission started acting funny by shifting irregularly and then getting stuck in 3rd gear occasionally. I took it to the dealer and they told me that the tranny is shot. The estimate for the repair is $2000.00.
I just can't see putting that much money into this car. It needs Struts, Shocks and a timing belt. Basically what it needs is what its worth if it were running well.
How hard it is to replace the transmission in this car? I have the 1.6L DOHC with the Automatic transmission.
What may be wrong with my 2001 Accent? The engine has occasionally cut out in the past and the Engine Management light has come on, but the car has always restarted and the light gone out.
On the most recent occasion though, the engine would not re-start and when I turn the ignition key to the first position there is no Engine Management Light or ABS Light - I have normally seen these in the past when the ignition is on and they went out when the engine was started but now they just don't light up at all.
There is no power at the diagnostic plug, all fuses seem OK tested with a multimeter (unless there is another hidden away somewhere for the ecu?), all of the electrical earths/ grounds that I can see seem OK. Is it likely that the ecu has failed or may there be a simple fix.
I got a 2002 accent 1.3 si, engine warning light comes on but doesn't seem to affect cars running, no misfires, no stalling, still good acceleration and mpg, occasional engine revving on its own, changed tps sensor and engine revving on its own was worse. Was told by hyundai mechanic to disconnect battery for 30 seconds and if light went out it was either faulty tps sensor or an intermittent non constant fault reading, light did go out for some time but is now back on.
View 1 RepliesI picked up an 02' accent, 1.5l that i've been intending to use as a commuter car. Drove fairly well on the way back home, but it seems it's got some low oil pressure issues once it's good an hot. As the oil pressure light will occasionally flicker at idle, mind you the car is near dying too.
Or so I thought, it was also misfiring/stumbling fairly badly,
Pulled all connections, cleaned, dielectric grease on them, fixed some of it. And it turns out the fellow who did the timing belt last didn't exactly remember to put the bolts back on the fuel rail.... Okay, that's fixed now.
Put in a little heavier oil, and no more issues with the light coming on, but I do have some lifter noise it seems like.
As well, the car will not rev past 5k in neutral or under load. Air filter is new, and no obstructions through to the intake manifold.
I'd guess based on the missing bolts here and there, the guy was a bit of a hackjob mechanic and i'm guessing has the belt out a tooth or so.... I can't see anywhere to stick a timing light on to verify ignition timing, how to check the timing belt is straight up? It's a bit of a dog compared to the other accent i've been in. The power band is like 2000-3500 and it just won't climb anywhere past that.

As the auto trans heats up, the gears begin to get sticky. This creates a jerking motion as the engine downshifts while braking. It also happens at high speeds when attempting to downshift for acceleration.
Additionally, while shifting from park at hot temperatures, the transmission will take up to 15 seconds to engage into drive, and even more time (30-40 sec) to shift into reverse.
The car has recently (approx 6-8000 miles ago) had a complete transmission flush. The auto shop in town also suggested and did replace a sensor somewhere which supposedly had gone bad. But the problem persists...
My Passat does not seem to be a morning person... For some time now, I've had this issues. It happens regardless of weather, but it seems that whenever I park the passat overnight, when I start it up in the morning it acts funny. The car is VERY hesitant to get out of first or second gear (Automatic, btw), but usually by the 2nd shift, the car is back to normal. I usually just tiptronic the first two gears and then its fine, but the weird thing is, something makes a horrid noise while this goes on. Around 3,000-4,000k RPMs, there is some rattle/grind noise.
Along with the hesitation, the noise leaves as well. This problem has been ongoing for some time, and I just cant for the life of me figure out why? It doesn't seem to happen if the car sits around all day even for 10 hours. It honestly seems like the passat "goes to sleep" and then when I "wake it up" in the morning, it doesn't want to shift. I've had warm days, cool days, humid, dry, raining...doesn't seem to be related to the climate.
I have a 2005 Accent GL with about 130k miles. When I start driving it, it seems fine for a little while, then it will throw itself into what I believe is 3rd gear and won't shift out of that for the remainder of the drive. The check engine light is also on now. I had my transmission flushed maybe 6 months prior to the first occurrence.
I took it to a transmission shop, they read the code, and then wanted $485 just to look at the transmission. I believe the code said "3rd gear incorrect ratio," but it could have been 4th gear too.
Is this a common issue? Is it likely a sensor or the transmission itself?
Just bought a 01 Accent hatch the other day. It's a 5 speed 4cyl. First gear through 4th have no problems. If I try to shift into 5th gear or reverse, the car doesn't want to go into them. The dealer I got the car from said that the problem is with a pin or something. I have never bought a Hyundai before this, I've had old 70s american cars. I was thinking it could be a shifter linkage but I figured I would ask you knowledgeable people about it first before I go and break something trying to fix something simple (hopefully simple.

When i drive it between 2nd and 3rd gear it shift violently, its almost like it shifts due to pressure, it also happens when it downshift too. Also the reverse went out, i can hear the pump running and it goes into reverse but when i press on the gas it acts like it in neutral. This is a daily driver for me.

I live in Canada (not sure if that will play a part); I notice that when I shift from first to second there is a 'clunk', not really a grind, and not a major clunk... but it's noticeable. As the car warms-up, it seems to be less pronounced (or maybe I start to ignore it). Is this something to worry about? or could it be the clutch plates.
I have had lots of bikes with wet clutches and this is 'normal' for a bike going into first gear. With the bike it's due to what I call Hydrolic-stick ... (2 or more) plates 'sticking' when you let the clutch out, one spinning faster than the other. Off topic now...
I am having a issue that my transmission is popping out of 4th gear on my Accent, particularly on inclines. Have had the transmission (gear) oil checked and filled (was low) and thought that may have been the issue. Got it back from the mechanic and less than an hour later is popped out of 4th 2 times in a 5 minute period. It has only popped out of 4th gear, has not happened from any other gear. I have no check engine light or any other 'idiot' lights that come on when it happens. (Other than replacing the clutch...which I hoping I don't have to do ) cause that's a trip to the mechanic again...

My car has started to do something odd. Whenever I am in 3rd gear, at about 2000-2200 rpm, the engine will revup 100 rpm or so and then back down (only for a split second). This only happens on 3rd gear and only at about 2000 rpm. Its a 2005 Hyundai Accent Hatchback with an automatic transmission with Royal Purple ATF. I also have a SRI and manga-flow muffler (if that makes any difference).

View 10 RepliesI have a 2000 hyundai accent 5 speed with 76k and a 1.5. the spark plug boots arc on all 4 plugs and can see a light blue line down the center of the wires also. But while idling you see nothing till u snap the throttle. Also driving while its under load you can really feel the miss in 3rd gear. Ok here"s what I've done I cleaned up all my grounds on motor and body ,also cleaned spark plug threads. i replaced wires with 5 different brands including factory wires and same thing. I've tried all kinds of different plugs from regular coppers to iridium and changing plug gaps with no change. the coil was replaced,crank sensor changed and does same thing.

I then have to slow down and drive through a small town. When I get on the other side of the small town and get back up to speed it will shift. Over drive is on.
View 4 RepliesI have a '05 Accent GLS Hatchback. 5-speed, manual transmission with about 82 thousand miles on it. I bought the vehicle used about 2 years ago. Ever since I've had it, its been a little jumpy in first gear when going at very low speed. Especially during traffic jams, barely pressing on the gas will cause it to jump a little bit until you put the pedal down further. Lately its starting to do something similar when it 4th gear. When you push your foot on the pedal it jumps a little and does the same thing when you take the foot off the pedal. What may be the cause? O2 or TPS sensor maybe? It did give me a flashing check engine light for about 10 seconds this morning but it hasn't done that since.
View 5 RepliesI just bought a 2001 Accent, very well taken care of. It is the 1.6, automatic, 148,000 miles. Just before I bought it, the owners put new tires on, replaced the plugs/wires/belts/timing belt/all fluids/head gasket. I did a search on this topic and saw a lot of things, but nothing definitive.
I've noticed that when at a stop (in gear) the car shakes a good amount, and with the A/C on it's significantly worse. There is no check-engine light, and the car seems to run and shift very well. I'm not used to small cars with small engines, so I don't know if it's normal or not.
I did look at the motor mounts (front and passenger side) and from what I can tell just taking a peek, they don't look bad, but again it was just a peek. The mounts don't look like they've ever been changed, but then again the whole car looks brand new, the owners took really good care of it (the inside looks like it's never been ridden in).
I do also have noise coming from the speedometer, that goes away temporarily when the back of the cable/speedo is lubed and then comes back, but my first concern is the shaking.
I recently bought a 2002 Accent with the 1.6 auto 133000 miles. I have been reading the postS around here about the crappy transmission. My car seems to have some life in the tranny still but it has slipped from 3rd to 4th gear around 45 mph when i get on the gas too hard. Its also a little sluggish to start off. My question is should i change the fluid out knowing i have a slipping issue? The reason i ask is that last time i changed the fluid and filter on a Jeep that was slipping i ended up having to rebuid it. Is that a real possibility if i change the fluid in this Hyundai?

Is it possible to swap the standard rear silencer for the 2005 1.3/1.5 accent with the twin outlet one for the coupe 1.6?
It looks very similar and the pipe bends look the same..? What a hissing noise is when in gear and running? Stopped it doesn't make the noise, and as soon as clutch is depressed while rolling it stops.. Had a new clutch fairly recently.
