So I had all of my belts changed including timing belt and tensioner pulley as well as an oil change. After, I noticed a weird pulsating grinding/wining noise coming from the engine bay. It only can be heard once the car is warmed up. (It is much louder in real life.).

Noise sounds like its coming from driver's side. It's not terrible until you hit 30-40km/h, after that its quite loud. No whistling sounds, which i was told to listen for if it were a wheel bearing (although I ma not convinced is the only sound a warn bearing makes).
The sound sometimes goes away when I am on a bend turning left (taking the weight off the drivers side wheel).
I have a 2001 1.6 DOHC Accent the engine has been making a lot noise coming form just the back of the head it kinda sounds like a diesel. I pulled the valve cover off and turned the engine over by hand. I noticed that cam chain has a good amount of slack in it. Is there a tensioner to take slack out of the chain? If so can I adjust it? If not how do I replace the chain?
View 8 RepliesI have a 2005 accent with a 5 speed, it has about 80,000km on it.... mainly city driving. Lately, once the car is up to temp. as I pull away from a stop the car makes a loud noise and I really need to feather the clutch out. The noise continues after shifting into second gear ,but no other gears. Thus happens under normal acceleration. If I pull away extremely slow the noise isn't there. If I don't feather the clutch the car lurches like I'm just 'dumping' the clutch and driving like someone who is just learning to drive. Sometimes there is also a whining noise in second gear if I am accelerating at a normal pace. Where I should start looking? I am assuming it's the clutch due to the fact that it happens after everything warms up.
View 3 RepliesMy 04 hyundai accent about 2-3 months ago acquired a hissing noise which seems to be coming from the middle of the engine compartment. The car only has 100,000 miles on it.
It is a constant hiss that only stops when the gas pedal is pushed initially. I have looked all over the car and can not see any fluids leaking at all. It is pretty loud and can be heard easily outside the car when the car is on.
I hooked up my obd2 reader and found these codes:
P0304-Cylinder 4 misfire (I notice it when the car sits at idle for about a minute)
2x P0121- Throttle Position circuit range/performance problem
2x- Evaporative emission incorrect purge flow.
So I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent, 1.5L with an automatic transmission. I'm hearing a grinding noise when I'm driving. It gets faster as the car goes faster, but the engine RPM has no effect only the speed of the car.
I got new tires, changed the CV axle shaft on both sides, and I also changed the front struts as I was told that one of the struts was bad the last time I took the car for an alignment. None of that has had any effect on the grinding noise.
Then I jacked the car up on both sides and let the wheels spin, and the grinding noise is present that way as well. Then I jacked up just one side at a time. When the driver's side wheel is spinning, the noise is audible, but not when just the passenger side is spinning.
I then disconnected the brake caliper from the driver's side and held it up with a tie wrap to keep it out of the way. The noise is still audible when the wheel is spinning, so it's not the pads or a clip or anything like that.
So now I'm down to a couple of ideas.
1) Wheel bearings
2) Something is hosed in the differential or transmission. I'm guessing that the differential is more likely, as the transmission should effect both sides the same, right?
I'm going to check the wheel bearings now, though to me it seems unlikely to be the problem.
I have a 2003 my04 accent, 1.6l, manual. I have 2 different noises coming from the engine bay. Iv'e got a video of one of them, you'll have to listen through headphones though to hear it properly, I'll post below. The noise will be echoed off the car shelter so bear with me. It sounds like a whine. You can hear it when I start revving it just after half way, and it is constant even when I am driving, becomes more noticeable as the RPM's climb.
The second noise I'm pretty sure is coming from the gearbox or surrounding areas. And it sounds like something grinding. It only happens if the car is straining I.e going up a hill in to high a gear. Or after I change gears and it sounds just before 2000RPM and fades out after 2200RPM . What could this be?
I recently noticed that I'm getting a high pitched whining noise after I drive anywhere then stop and turn off the car. The noise is a buzzing/whining sound that lasts about 10-15 seconds and then stops. The noise sounds like it's an electronic component maybe having to do with the transmission? What it might be?
View 7 Replies2001 1.5 Accent. It has not been starting consistently for the last few weeks. Ive had to use the jump box on it a few times and that worked.
The other day (cold day!) it died at the stoplight after driving for about 20 mins. It made a grinding crunch sound from under the hood as it died. After several attempts on jump box it fired up and ran again for about 15 seconds and died and made sound again.
This repeated itself a few times before I got it towed home.
I removed alternator and it tested good (PASS) at two parts stores...testing 3 times each.
Battery has about 14 volts at the posts without having charged it after event.
What would cause the car to die and make the awful sound? And why would it appear to need a jump start?
I was thinking alternator but.....
Recently I've noticed more that when we first start the hyundai in the morning or after sitting a while and we use the brakes it grinds/ squeals a little and then doesn't after about 2 or 3 miles. Is this something to get checked out or should I spray something on my brakes to lubricate?
My next step that I though of was to get a simple automatic car wash cause it's been a bad winter in Rhode Island and the street shave been flooded with rock salt. I figure that might cause some friction under the pads.
Yesterday I was driving home and my clutch started acting up. To start I was unable to press the pedal. The pedal was super hard, then let up but didn't feel right.
I removed the slave and the pedal went down fine. Both the master and the slave have no leaking and fluid levels are good. I haven't been able to have a buddy look at the levels when I press the clutch, but....
Here is a little more, the car shifts fine with the car off, it goes into all the gears, but with the car on it will not shift into gear. Also there is a light grinding noise when I let the clutch out..
I ordered a clutch kit already, but don't want to pull the trans if I don't have to, I would love to hear the issue is with the master or slave.....
2005 Hyundai accent with 138,000 miles
Heard a wining noise from the front end when I accelerated about 4 days ago, fast forward to today - it kept getting worse and worse, turning into a grinding. The mechanic said to replace the power steering line and something else around it..
View 7 RepliesI own a 2005 Hyundai Accent 1.3 SOHC and a while ago the front right wheel started to make a grinding noise, problem was related to the brake system..
So far I've tried replacing the rotor (disc), repaired the caliper (using a rebuild kit), replaced hoses (both), and event the master cylinder.... and the problem persists, it actually came to the point that after driving a while the front wheels will get stuck.
I've followed all the directions from the service manual and it still got the problem...
I have a noise coming from my engine that i am not to sure what it is. I own a 2000 Passat 1.8t 5-speed,with 115k miles on it and oil changed just 500 miles ago. The noise comes and goes as it pleases I have never noticed a patter in it, i.e. cold weather warm/wet or dry weather. It just started at 114k miles i bought the car at 113k there for its a new car to me.

I notice it now for awhile this whining noise coming from the engine. It sounds like bearing noise to me. The car is still under warranty till 12 Oct 13. So if needs a fix, it have to happen soon.
View 4 RepliesTurned my car (07 SE v7 with 240k on the clock) on this AM and there was a high pitched whine coming right from the engine bay - matched to the revs of the car, regardless of gear.
This is a new noise to me and the car - but I'm assuming it's some kind of belt issue.
I just picked up a 20th about a month ago. It has 50k on it and recently I've noticed a faint whining coming from under the hood, most noticeable under idle and it changes pitch when I turn the wheel. I check the P/S fluid and it was low so I topped it off and I believe it has improved a bit but not too sure because I haven't gotten a chance to drive it yet. The steering does feel a little heavy but I figured that's normal because, well it's not a cadillac.
View 1 RepliesI've got 2013 es 350 with 10,000 miles on now. I have recently noticed that there was whining/whirring noise coming from the engine(I guess) while accelerating up to 45 mph. It seems that the noise goes along with the RPM since it gets louder when accelerating. It makes same noise when decelerating from 30 mph and it goes away when the car stops. A friend of mine drove the car once before but did not hear anything until I told him about the noise, so I guess it is not very noticeable to some people. At the 10,000 miles check up at the dealer, I mentioned about it and they said they did not hear anything, but I know for sure there is whirring/whining noise.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 lexus es 330 that just turned over 90,000 miles. My dad and I have done the regular maintenance on it so far but this weekend after a 3 hour drive, I turned the car back on and a loud whirring/humming/whining noise was coming from the engine. It gets slightly louder with acceleration, but I can barely hear it once I've picked up speed (but it's still there.) It still happens when I am in neutral. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine. Close to the power steering pump area, but the power steering fluid is full (although it is a very dark/black color and has a slight smell...not sure if this is normal.) I'm not having any trouble or hesitation while steering. The rack is operating smoothly and it is not leaking. I plan on taking it into the shop but wanted to go in educated.
View 3 RepliesThe other day I replace the front brake pads and rotors on my daughter's '03 Accent. On the test drive I noticed a scraping noise coming from the driver's side. Got it home and didn't see anything obvious, but for fun I removed the pads and swapped the shims around. It was better, and afterwards I put the new brakes through a few heat cycles. The scraping noise became less noticeable so I figured she should just drive it for a few days. Well today I'm informed that the noise is "really bad".
View 1 RepliesVery annoying noise I have on the rear left wheel of my 2001 Hyundai accent. About a year ago I noticed a rhythmic noise coming from the rear left wheel of my car. I figured the car had done around 130K kms and was probably needing new bearing assemblies. This didn't fix the noise. So I thought maybe it was the struts or the wheels. Not either of those.. changed the struts and got the wheels balanced.
I changed the rear brakes shoes.. didn't work. So a few months went by and I figured I would try and get the drums machined. So I got them skimmed slightly but this did nothing. Finally I decided to that maybe the bearing was dodgy so I put a new on... and you guessed it.. The noise is still there.
The noise is always present whether I am braking or not. As I speed up the noise is more prevalent. Basically the noise is related to the rotation of the wheel. My next plan of attack is to put new brake shoes on with new brake drums. I don't know what else I can try.
