View 1 RepliesFeels like my transmission is slipping from 40m/hr to 65m/hr. But only when I am at a constant speed and not when i am accelerating. only happens when I am at approximately 1400rpms and while in overdrive. Does not happen in any other gear just overdrive.

Between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm (only 20% of the time) I hear, and feel, a clunk that seems to emanate somewhere near / behind the driver seat. The error code (an 834 ? possibly but I forget exactly...but def in the 800 series) says " transmission component slipping".
Trans oil full, and clear.
The clunk sound happens on any terrain, and is very random. And going up-hill does not bring it on. The clunk's been happening for about 2,000 miles.
The orig transmission was replaced 15,000 miles ago. With a used one. Total mileage on car now 75,000.
Mechanics give varied explanations, and prognoses (none are good) but no one knows what's going on for sure.
Ok so when I come to a full stop my truck doesn't want to shift right when I take off where do I need to start looking
View 7 RepliesIt does not like to stay in 5th gear, drops out to neutral. 2001 Accent Hatchback. 1.5l 5-speed
The other day it started slipping out of 5th gear on the expressway. Held good for the first 10 to 20 minutes. Afterwards I had to hold it in 5th for it to stay in gear. While holding I noticed it pushed on the shifter when applying throttle, and let up some when I let of the gas.
I inspected the pivots at the transmission. The forward / back bushing was not installed properly by the previous owner. I rigged it up better with a fender washer and cotterpin. It previously had just a pin and the bushing had expanded out. This removed the play from shifting I had previously noticed. It also halfway fixed the popping out of gear. It stays in gear a little longer, and when I put it back into 5th it stays there for a while most of the time.
I have not inspected the lubricant level yet. Where to check next?
I have a 1997 F150 4 x 4 with the 5.4 overdrive transmission. When I accelerate from a stop I can feel the slip of the transmission until I reach exactly 35 miles an hour. Above 35 seems to be normal and have plenty of torque.
The funny thing about this is I have had a 2001 Windstar same 35 miles an hour. I have also owned a 1997 Ford Explorer with this exact same issue. Three different motor and trans combination that will not lock up until you reach 35 miles an hour.
The truck has 213,000 I have replaced all coils fuel filters catalytic converter and torque converter. Have exterior tranny cooler. engine runs good and strong. And no code I have a reader.
So ever since I picked up the truck from getting the springs swapped out the tranny has started to slip more and more. It's about at the point now where it does it at the 1-2 and 2-3 gear change every time unless I give it a little throttle so it shifts harder. It's just the normal shifting pause and then the slight jerk when the next gear starts. Time to a new torque converter, or am I looking at getting my whole thing rebuilt? If it's the converter I can give that a shot myself but if I have to have it rebuilt it's going to have to wait until January or February.

I've read here n there that the Escape clutch is a poor design & others have reported that a clutch repair doesn't solve their shuddering problem. After putting off the job for a while, I'd like to replace the clutch.
Here's a topic from here : Manual Transmission shudder / fill & drain access?
I have a 99 Ranger 3.0L automatic, ext cab, 2 wheel drive. Door sticker show code "T" which I looked up as the 4R44E. The trans seems to be slipping in 1st and 2nd. Thought it was "reared shudder", from a "limited slip" differential but mine is not limited slip. just the regular 8.8 with 373 gears.
Wanting to know what if any options I have for buying a new / rebuilt tranny? I've seen where depending upon the year and motor, Ranger can have 4r44e, 4r55e, 5r55e, etc.
I have a 1989 tioga 460ford and the trans appears to be slipping when i get around 50mph. The engine revs up but it won't go more than 50. The engine again revs up but there does not feel like the power of the engine is being transferred to the trans. the coach runs fine up until i try to go beyond 50. I have 34000 miles on the rig. Some one suggested that I check the catalytic converter. what else should i look for?
View 2 Replies2002 CAvalier 2.2 automatic with 123'000 miles. I was asked to look at this car for a slipping trans problem.
I drove the car about 3 miles and in 1st and Reverse it feels normal, even on a steep hill, but once it shifts into a higher gear the trans slips and you can go only about 15mph.It is shifting, because if you move the shifter into a lower gear while traveling....you can feel it downshift.
There is a code of P0502 Vehicle speed sensor. and there is no Trans fluid visible thru the filler cap on the trans top.
Previously someone else worked on this car for the slipping trans....changed some sensors....but couldn't fix the problem. The owners don't know what parts he replaced. He works for a Tire outfit and I've known him to lean towards used parts a lot.The previous mechanic convinced them that it needs a new Cluster. I presume he means instrument cluster.
I have a feeling that he just threw parts at it hoping that something would stick.
I presume that he replaced the VSS, and it didn't cure the problem.Come to think of it....the code could be from before the other persons work. I should have cleared the code and test drove it again.
I'm looking at dropping the pan, replacing the filter, refill the fluid, and replace the VSS
My questions: Could a instrument cluster have anything to do with the shifting problem.
Is the level of trans fluid supposed to be above the ledge under the filler cap, or is there a "full level" plug in the side of the trans. If he replaced the VSS with a new one....and the fluid level is good....whats my next step.
Here's my transmission problem. 2007 f150 crew lariat 4x4 with a 5.4
When my driving conditions force me to cruise at the 28-30 MPH range my transmission often hunts for an upshift, like a slipping gear hunt then it hits in firm. It must be from 2nd to 3rd gear I'm thinking. It doesn't occur at all if i am accelerating through this gear or past this shift point. under normal acceleration through and past this speed or shift point it is as smooth as can be.
I often drive some flat but winding dirt roads out in a forest area near my deer camp and it seems this is where I settle into a speed of 28-30 mph for several miles at a time. This is where it happens, the transmission seems to begin to shift but seems to slip or hunt for that next gear then it hits in fairly firmly.
Truck has 83k on it....
I was driving my 7.3 down the road and it started acting like the trans was slipping, it revved up and tried kicking down a couple times and when I slowed down and went to speed back up it just had no power coming through the trans to the wheels it just revved. I put it in neutral and it idled up for about 5 seconds. I put it in park n shut it down. I fired it back up after looking everything over and it moved about half mile down the road and no power to the wheels again. The trans is full of fluid, is there a sensor that could of went bad or just the torque converter or the entire thing shot? Only owned my truck 6 months has a trans and motor swap already from previous owner. 180k on current motor n Trans. 382k on my truck. t6 4" turbo back banks exhaust only mods I know of.
View 11 RepliesMy wife's car, '06 explorer 4.0, experienced trans. slipping issues last year. The trans was replaced under extended warranty. Now it's doing the same thing. Warranty expired. The dealer claims they can't find a problem. It does it when you slow down at a light and then accelerate without stopping, or going around a corner and accelerating. It shifts but requires more rpm to move. Almost like I am dragging a piano or something.
View 2 RepliesWith a 100 k on the odometer, the wife reports that the car started shaking, trans was slipping and check engine light came on after driving about two miles. She drives it at low speed back to the house. Investigation under the hood shows trans fluid in the radiator and coming out of the overflow tank. Engine starts right up and we have not had any other driveline problems since owning the car in 2005.
View 1 RepliesWell, just picked the truck up from the dealer. Had to pay for the shudder diagnosis which turned up a #8 misfire as well as lesser random misfires on the mode 6 test (no CEL) since it out of B2B warranty. Also brought up the transmission issue I have been having. Virtually every morning when I go to pull out of the driveway, when I put the truck in park it was quite violently slamming into gear, even if I let it idle long enough to drop the neutral RPM's.
Service writer was a bit baffled, but after touching base with their driveline technician, and verifying it was in no way similar to how any other F150 engages they were able to locate TSB 11-11-11 which, to me, seems primarily concerned with the harsh 1-2 and 2-3 shifting but also noted the harsh engagement.
Anyways, they squeezed me in over night and in 2 days had my parts in and installed (apparently on these trucks they have to physically get the numbers off the solenoids to be replaced as there are a couple options). 3 solenoids tested bad and were replaced under the powertrain warranty. Truck did not slam when I picked it up, looking forward to testing tomorrow morning!
The best part is that when the tech went to drive the truck in this morning to start working it not only slammed into gear for him (verifying my concern) but it also demonstrated the violent 1-2 upshift. Too bad they couldn't push a spark plug through warranty, guess I'll have to wait for my Rockauto order to come in
2007 escape 4wd 3.0. I've notice some random hard shifts for the past month and today the trans has trouble shifting out of 1st. If I get the rpms between 3,000-4,000 and ease off the accelerator pedal it shifts into 2nd without drama. It will not shift at lower rpms with the same easing off the pedal. The trans light is steadily blinking.
View 7 Replies1998 Olds Intrigue 3.8L ... When I turn on the right signal on my Olds Intrigue the back light flashes faster than normal. The front light does not flash. I purchased a new light bulb for the front. I replaced the bulb. The back flashes at a faster rate but the front does not flash. I replaced the front and rear bulbs. The front does not flash and the rear flashes at a faster rate. Do you think there is a broken wire or broken signal flasher?
View 3 RepliesMy tranny is slipping all over the place . I recently less than 1500 miles ago changed tranny fulid, tree branch and TP filter, ford filters, and 8 to 9 quarts of mercon SP. My truck is shifting like a bucking bronco. Came up with PO671. So should I replace just the 1 solenoid. Or all the valve body? I plan to run a gauge in cab to see shift pressures for testing purposes to aid in troubleshooting for current issue... reason for fluid change is history unkown.

99 F250 7.3 everyday worker, just recently my tranny slipped as I was taking off from a light, I thought hmm that's odd! Pulled away from the next light , it did not slip! Later in the day did it again, so I ran by the transmission shop to have a service done, to my surprise I was told service would not work, and a rebuild was going to be 3200-4k. truck has been used lightly for the last week or so, slips sometimes and not others. I still believe I need to have it serviced? can I do this myself ( I haven't a clue)....
