So I have a 2003 Chevy Impala Base 3.4L V6 and for some odd reason when I turn down the brightness for my dash the lights on the radio buttons and screen becomes brighter and when I brighten the dash the lights on the stock radio lights go out. I started to notice this after the BCM was replaced.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 Chevy Impala LS with 120,000 miles, equipped with sentinel lighting. Recently, the instrument cluster lights along with the lighted controls on the door panels and steering wheel stopped working leaving me unable to see the speedometer while driving at night. All controls seem work properly. I did some internet research and it appears there are several causes and/or fixes out there. I would like to have one or two more probable approaches than just throw money and time at a trial and error approach.
View 9 RepliesThe dash brightness dimmer pot. The roller doesn't have much tactile feedback or resistance, so when I rolled it just beyond maximum brightness, the dash lights flickered and went out. [Of course this could also be a feature I'm not aware of... ] Fortunately, dash lights came back on when reducing from max. Best to just find a comfortable setting below max brightness and leave it alone. - IMHO.
View 14 RepliesI noticed the dash lights go from bright to dim depending on the brightness outside. If i go under an overpass even at freeway speeds it will dim down and then come back up during the day. Even if I have my head lights on during the day it does that. Is there anyway to stop this?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2003 Impala which up until this past monday had a tire with a slow leak in it. On monday I had that leak repaired, well the shop said it was repaird. Then driving home last night I got the "low tire pressure light" coming on, and well figured they actually had NOT fixed the leak or I had a new one. I pulled off at a station to refill, but first checked all four tires, all four were exactly the same at 35 PSI, which is where they are suppsed to be. So my question, what could have set off the LTPL if none of the tires were low in pressure or no tire was significantly different from the others presure wise?

I notice that the dash lights on the 04 are dim compared to the 07 even though the dash control switch is turned all the way up. Is this the nature of the car or is there a setting that can be adjusted through the computer?
I have a 2005 Chevy Aveo. The interior lights and radio will not power on. It used to work and we started having electrical problems with the car. Sometimes the air conditioner won't come on but sometimes when it stops working and you hit a bump it will turn on. I have checked the fuses and I am pretty sure that they are not blown. The metal thing inside of the fuse for the radio is still connected. We did have to put a new battery in it a few months ago but I'm pretty sure we had problems before that. If the problem is a short wire how would I fix that?

View 1 RepliesI have a 98 chevy blazer that the dash lights and interment cluster (including odometer) only works at night when u turn on the headlights by the switch. And the truck starts sometimes. I placed a piece of tape over the sensor on the dash for the auto lights( this made the dash, interment, odometer work) but now truck will not start. I've been told its the ignition switch.
View 1 RepliesOn our 2012 Sonata all stock, the radio display screen is far dimmer than the rest of the lighting. When putting the lighting at a safe level for night time driving (ie not blinding), the display screen is far too dim. In order to see it, the dash lights need to be almost all up.
Any way to adjust? BTW, the radio knobs and preset lights are fine. It is only the diplay screen. This is NOT an issue on our 2012 Tucson. That one works perfectly. I flipped through all the obvious controls and found nothing
I have a 2002 Chevy Impala with power driver's seat. The seat has three motors which move the seat forward/back, front of the seat up/down, rear of the seat up/down.
The seat will no longer go up/down in the rear of the seat. More importantly, it will no longer go forward or back. The left side jack screw spins and wants to move the seat forward or back but eventually stops when it can no longer go any further because the right side jack screw will not turn at all.
All of the motors are working properly and turning the flexible drive shafts. The drive shafts do not appear to be stripped at the ends. After removing the drive shaft covers and reinstalling the drive shaft, I can see that they are turning when the motors are activated.
I then removed the drive shafts and inserted a square bit into the end where the drive shaft gets inserted into the gearing attached to the jack screw. The bit just spins and spins and doesn’t turn the jack screw.
I cannot removed the seat because it is in a position where the rear bolts are covered by the seat. I have tried to remove the four bolts under the seat that attach the seat to the frame. I am unable to break these bolts free (they appear to be welded or loc-tited down).
When I press on gas petal the car hesitates and seems like it is having trouble accelerating. It also does this when I accelerate up a hill actually it is worse. The mechanic changed by spark plugs and coil pack and it is still doing it. What could be the problem.

Note: All new struts and tires one year ago (approx 7,000 miles ago) after hitting raised pavement road hazard on interstate at 70 mph and bottoming out car. Entire suspension system was thoroughly examined for damage at the time and only struts, tires and one front wheel bearing needed repair/replacement. Also, just passed safety and emissions inspection about six weeks ago prior to this new creaking sound appearing.
PROBLEM: Since weather turned cold about two weeks ago, an intermittent "creaky door hinge" sound in the car rear end when driving over rough spots and to a lesser extent sometimes when turning. No noticeable change in how the car handles, rides, steers, brakes, etc. Just the creaky door hinge sound from somewhere in the rear end. No recent hitting of pot holes or other reason I can think of for why this has started other than the advent of cold weather. Pushing down hard on the trunk and trunk corners does not reproduce the sound, although I can't really push down all that hard so that is no proof one way or the other.
Ok so I recently started noticing my car was overheating and the sensor would go off saying coolant temp hot. So I started by adding coolant that didn't work. I than replaced the thermostat didn't change. I saw the water pump was leaking and changed that but before I did I was driving it home one night and the engine stopped and I barely had control of the car. Now the water pump is new and I don't know what the problem is. I think it's the head gasket ???

View 10 RepliesI have this weird noise that comes from the engine compartment and you only hear it when the A/C compressor is running and the gears are engaged while braking. It sounds like a low whirr that goes on for a few seconds. I noticed that if I shift into neutral and engage the brakes while the A/C is running the sound does not come on, also if I have noticed that there is no noise if the A/C is OFF. Could that be the compressor? the idler pulley? the belt tensioner??

View 4 RepliesToday I noticed when I was parking at work that my back tail lights don't seem that bright. When I apply the brakes and such or the backup lights are very bright, but just the normal tail lights didn't seem to come off as that bright. At night they may appear brighter but this morning in cloudy overcast sky's with some light snow falling I am not sure if the person behind could have seen my taillights at all. I have a 2003 Impala LS, it's just over 102,000 miles. Is there a way to test to see if your back taillights are bright enough or is there a way to increase how bright they are when on?
View 15 RepliesI have a 2004 Grand Am (6 cylinder 3.4L). There are 177K miles. Last week, after I started my car (with no problem), the radio and dash gauges took about 3-5 seconds before coming on. Hadn't happened again since then until yesterday.
First it took 3 seconds, the next time 5 and progressively longer. The last time I started my car it took about 20-30 seconds until everything came on. I was already driving at that point. Interestingly, if I put the key in the ignition and turn it half way - the radio and dash lights pop on right away with no delay (every time). It's just after I turn the car on that the delay happens.
I'm going to get my alternator and battery tested tomorrow at an Auto Parts store. I can't remember how old my battery is (I have it documented somewhere but haven't had the chance to investigate). The only interior electrical thing I can think of is my dome light doesn't turn on when the car doors open. I have gotten it to work occasionally by just jiggling the switch, but can't get it to come on automatically.
I have a 2006 Prius hybrid that will not start. A few days ago I was driving in a storm, parked my car for an hour and when it was time to leave the car wouldn't start. The interior light, power locks, brake lights Ann hazard lights all work. No dash lights or radio come on.
I had two friends with two different cars try to jump the front and back battery and still nothing.
I just installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2001 Alero. I did not use a wiring harness, but I just cut the old harness out. (probably a bad idea!) I did NOT disconnect the battery when I installed it.
1. I did not know where to put the radio ignition wire for the stereo (the ACC wire) (it was orange in my case). It looks like this car does not have one? I ended up just plugging the radio's ignition wire into the constant hot so the radio is always on.
2. After hooking everything up, the car does not start, it turns over for about 2 seconds, then it quits. Also, the instrument panel lights are not coming on. Everything else seems to work OK, interior lights, etc. I checked the fuses IPC/HVAC BATT and IPC/BFC ACC and they are not blown. My guess is that I did not wire the ACC part correctly...
What did I do wrong? I hope it isn't some complicated anti-theft mechanism.
