2002 2wd, 4dr has a power steering fluid leak. I am losing fluid in the resevior and there is a mess at the bottom around the steering box, lines and sway bar and it's hard to find the origin. it is not leaking at rest with or without the engine running. What are the more common leak points in this system?
View 6 RepliesSo I've been noticing my power steering in the reservoir has been going down for quite some time. Now its more noticeable than ever. Just about a month ago I topped off the tank to the "max" line and now its at the "min" line. I also notice the fluid on the garage floor. I've always had a lot of grease (I assume the fluid) all around the body and under the reservoir under the hood. It seems to be leaking from the hose where it connects to the actual reservoir. Maybe the clamp is bad or something.
View 14 Repliesjust found out about this a few days ago. It seems that the leak is between the fluid container and the tube. I just used some zipper to tighten up the connector. Where to buy this tube and the steering wheel fluid, and how much are they? My car is a LE V6 2007.
View 13 RepliesJust checked out at 2003 V6 LE with 120k miles for $5500. Car seems to be in excellent mechanical condition but I did notice quite a significant power steering fluid leak, seems to be coming from the reservoir. I see that there are two hoses for about $80 each listed on Partsgeek.
Is this a common problem, can the clamps just be tightened, Could it be the reservoir it's self or even the pump too high a pressure?
Seems to be quite a lot of fluid running down the side of the car but after taking it for a test drive I didn't see any signs of it squirting out so perhaps it's a slow leak and been leaking for a while.
I have a truck that is leaking power steering fluid. I have change out the line from the bottom of the power steering fluid container, but i cant get it tight enough to stop leaking. I tighten it, and it stops for a while then starts leaking again.
View 1 Replies2002 camry: my boyfriend just told me he accidentally added power steering fluid to the brake reservoir a couple monthes ago....while i floored it on highway, i only reached 40, when let off gas, car came to a quick stop. later i jacked up rear and was able to turn back tires to rule out e-brake being stuck,when car is in nuetral and pushed (forward or backward) it comes to a stop whithin a foot or so ( it seemed like the brakes were being depressed) possible transmission or brake issue?

View 1 RepliesOK, I have developed a leak in the power steering hose that connects to the fluid reservoir (the smaller diameter hose). The dealer only sells this as an assembly (all the way to the pump, and very expensive). The hose is molded. Need to replace just this first hose section? AutoZone and several others I checked don't seem to have this (at least on line).

I am going in tomorrow for DSG and fuel filter, going to have them look at these issues...should be fun ... oh yeah and head gasket might show signs of leakage......

The other day I started hearing a noise in first gear, and then this toy car sound got worse. I realized the power steering was low so I added more, now it leaks about half a bottle a day. I just wanted to know if its an expensive repair, how I can pinpoint the problem, and what the long-terms effects are if I leave the problem alone.
View 2 RepliesSo the big rubber hose attached to my power steering reservoir is leaking and my mechanic told me to replace it. I went to a couple of different Autozone stores and they both couldn't identify the correct dimensions of it. They told me to take it out and then bring it to them. This is very hard for me since this is my only car and how to pull the bottom bit of the hose out from whatever it's attached to.
I've measured the length to be about 2.4 feet but I'm not sure on how thick it is. I've taken a pic of the hose here:
On my way to pick up my mother in law yesterday I noticed a strange whirring sound whilst at the traffic lights, thought that was a strange new sound anyway I guessed something was wrong so on arrival I noticed an oil like mark on the left hand side of the car on the wet drive. So it looks like I may have a corroded power steering line. Got the car booked in with the chap who does my vehicle repairs for me is this a difficult job on the V10?

A family member did a tune up on the car and did not realize that the power steering reservoir had a HOT and COLD min/max lines. He filled up to the max line for HOT while the car was completely cold. He also filled up with Prestone Power Steering fluid with Stop Leak instead of ATF/DEXIII.
The car was driven a few times for maybe 50 miles in total before I found out about all this and I drained the fluid out to the appropriate levels. However the steering at low/parking speeds is still very tight (tighter than what I used to remember, at least).
Did he royally screw up the power steering system here? What can I do?
I have a 2002 camry and I flushed my power steering fluid today using the following procedure:
- emptied the reservoir
- connected return hose to a bucket
- added new fluid (ATF dexron III - from toyota dealer)
- jacked front wheels
- turned steering wheel side to side till new fluid came out of return line (my reservoir did get empty couple times in the process so air may have went in)
- lowered the vehicle
- reconnected the return line to reservoir
- ran the engine and turned side to side couple times (did not see bubbling and fluid level did not drop)
I took the car for test drive and noticed that my steering wheel was still making noise when turning. Also, when i was turning the wheel side to side with hood open, I noticed a change in the sound. There was a sticking sensation and steam pressure release noise when I locked the wheel on either side.What could be the problem?
1999 Toyota Camry 2.2L V4 automatic 112,000 miles
Last week I checked my transmission fluid and it was very low. I added fluid and checked it the next day and it was low again. I noticed trans fluid on the front of the pan so i went out and bought a new trans filter and a new trans pan gasket and replaced them, sealed and bolted the trans pan back properly, and added the fluid. I thought that this would fix the leak but I see that the pan is still leaking from the front of it.
I have a 2000 intrigue (w/ a 3.5), it is leaking tranny fluid pretty bad. I cleaned under the tranny to see where it might be leaking and I was hoping it was the tranny pan, but it is not. where else would it be leaking? it looks like its possibly coming from the passenger drive axel. how hard is it to fix it? I keep adding fluid so I dont wreck my transmission but this cant go on for ever.
View 2 RepliesSo, whenever I park the car after a trip it always leaks fluid when the A/C was on which I know is normal but now it seems to leak a lot more and I'm wondering if that's where all my coolant goes. Where exactly does it drip from from the A/C? Is that somewhere in the cowl?
View 8 RepliesIt looks like I have a small leak under my 2001.5 Passat. It is a yellow fluid. I just had my engine light come on but it has since gone off. Whether or not its an easy enough fix to do myself. Very Little actual fluid comes out and if I had not seen it in the snow I would not have noticed.

View 2 RepliesMy 04 has a leak in the wiper fluid system, after running the wipers with fluid, the reservoir leaks and goes bone dry. The rear window never receives any fluid but the windshield receives its normal amount with no noticeable drop in pressure.
Here's the weird part, there are no visible signs of a leak. I poured 3 liters of water and watched it all drain, but there was no water underneath the car. My car is sitting on a slight decline in the garage with the nose slightly higher than the rear of the car.
I pulled the reservoir out and it is not cracked, the leak appears to be somewhere else and it seems to be collecting. I even moved the car and didn't see a puddle of water. What might be happening or where I can look to find anything? I haven't taken it to the dealer and would prefer not to....
