Infiniti - G35 :: Off Balance Humming Along When Reach About 50 Mph
Mar 27, 2013
I have a 2003 infiniti g35. With about 93k. When I reach about 50mph I begin to hear an off balance hum. I believe it is coming from the front tires. If I speed up past 70 I cannot here it or its frequency increases to where it is not noticeable. I thought it was my tires but I recently replaced the two front tires but the humming still is present. I don't know if its the steering, wheels or the engine. A few months ago I ran over a curb (drivers side) and had the front bumper replaced due to damage. I'm almost positive that knocked something off alignment, but I took it back to the repair shop and they said they could not find anything.

II had the vibration/hum for the first time when you reach 70mph and I need to know if it is safe to drive for about a week. I have looked but can't seem to find the answer.

Does the engine have balance shafts? Just curious.

When I take my car in to have an oil change/checkup the garage tells me my wheels need to be balanced. However I do not have any indication that I need wheel balancing. The tires do not show unusual wear, there is no shaking while driving in the city, nor when on an expressway driving from 40 to 70 MPH. Is it possible I really need to balance the wheels?

I bought my Passat 2.5 V6 TDI a few months ago, 3rd day i owned it a lorry hit the back end, its all fixed and looking great now.. but last week it developed wobbly steering, feels like a wheel is out of balance but only when coasting or off the power (engine breaking), and intermittent, i cant pin it down to one speed/range/road or anything.
I've checked tyre pressure and made sure the wheels are all on, jacked up the front end one side at a time but couldn't find any play in the track rod ends, i did notice the complexity of the legs on the front and that worries me a bit.

Wheel Balance 18" Wheels with there T-Reg? I have a slight shimmy @ around 68-75. Had it balanced twice with no luck. The dealer doesn't have a good Hunter Road Force Machine? Other than that love the T-Reg.

So, I've been noticing a lot of road noise lately. I am chocking it up to a wheel out of balance. What would be some symptoms of a wheel out of balance? I was thinking slight vibration, wah-wah-wah noise that gets louder with speed? I have a very, very slight vibration, little to no feel in the steering wheel, but that incessant, annoying noise from 20mph +. When I bought the car just over a year ago, the dealership put some cheap new tires on it. Continentals, I think? I know that the weather could have something to do with the tires being loud, but not this much. I don't think it could be a transmission problem because the noise persists when I take it out of gear.

Over the past month or so I've noticed that my 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited has started to make a creaking noise when it's a little off balance, such as driving down and uneven drive-way. I believe it's coming from the back?

I took my parents 2006 Honda Odyssey with less than 50k miles to the local Sears to have the tires balanced since the steering wheel was vibrating at highway speeds (65 -75mph). The car sounded fine when we dropped it off, however, when we picked up the car I noticed that starting from about 5 mph on up, there was a loud noise that initially sounded like something was stuck to the contact patch of the tire. The frequency and decibel level of the noise would increase in sync with the car speed up to about 60 - 65 mph. Then, either the noise would fade or the wind noise would drown it out. I'm not sure which. We took it back to Sears to show them.
Checked tires and nothing was on the contact patch of the tires. They claim that it was a coincidence that the wheels started making noises immediately after they finished working on it. They said that it is probably bad wheel hub bearings. Is it possible that this was just a coincidence? Why would the bearing not make any noises before the wheels were balanced? Is it possible that balancing the tires messed up the drive train (and it not be the mechanics fault)? Or did they simply mess up/sabotage the wheel and are not fessing up to it?

I have a shake at 60-78 mph. Have had the tires balanced three times, last balance is beter. I'm thinking of switching the wheels from my 05 F250 to the 03 Excursion to verify a tire problem. Will the factory F250 17" wheels fit for the test? Both are 4x4 vehicles. The truck rides smooth.

I know that everybody has different sound tastes, but any recommended settings for the best sound balance overall. I have my new 2010 set at Treble +3, Mid +1, and Bass +2 and 2 back for sound. Again I know that people have different tastes, but any best sound settings from ML system.

I had a balancing problem with some tires I bought with the car. At about 80 they shook and hard enough to not want to drive at that speed. I replaced them with Falken tires and it was so much better, but......
At 75-82 mph I still have a shake in the steering wheel. I bought the tires from Discount and they claim the rim is bent and they cannot completely balance the tire. I am going back once more to get a definitive response.
I am at a loss at what to do next. My other Lexus was smooth at any speed, even at 90. Smooth. 2007 Lexus es350

I did wheel balance and alignment on my car and it still drives rough at around 105 km 110 and the mechanic said my rear left shaft needs to be replaced. I feel it in the floors like the car shaking a little about around that km.

109K and runs great except for when accelerating from start to any speed. The front end acts likes the front wheels are slightly out of balance. Once you stop accelerating all is fine. Tires have plenty of tread and no I haven't rotated them to the rear which I might do?

I have a new car now, 2004 Grand Prix GTP Comp G, got it at 88k and it now has 167k. Nearly no problems other than routine maintenance, but here I am with an issue I can't seem to figure out.
A few weeks ago, I blew a tire on the highway, ended up getting 2 new tires put on the front and moved the fronts to the back. Tires were then rebalanced and the alignment straightened out.
The guys at the shop said the front tie end rod needed replaced, but I'm pretty sure they were trying to make extra money off a new customer because my bill was going from tires/alignment to tires/alignment, bearings, tie end rods, and speed sensors.
Now, on to my issue. When I'm driving on the interstate, I notice a humming sound that seems to come from the front passenger wheel between 68-80mph. Soon as I go over 80 or under 68, it's gone. I noticed that the noise lessened when I veered to the right, so I assumed it was the bearing.
Took the car to my usual shop, had the bearings checked, got the front driver bearing replaced under warranty. Mechanic said the passenger bearing seemed fine. Got it on the highway again today, noise is still there.

I have a Venture with a steadily-worsening vibration problem which is always worse at the front passenger side. The vibration is not the growly rumble I remember from the bad bearings I replaced 3 years ago. It's more like the thudding feel of an out-of-balance tire, but the tires are relatively new and have been rotated and balanced since purchase and since I noticed the problem. The vibration shows mainly from 45-55 mph, but not if coasting. It's only when the engine is under load that I feel it. It occurs when the gear select is in D or 3. At any other speed it is not as bad, but if I get on the gas, the vibration becomes worse. Revving the engine in park or neutral reveals no abnormal vibration.
I jacked up the van and rotated the tires again and checked for any play in the bearings or loose mounting bolts - nothing obvious there. I did notice on the passenger side of the engine, around the inboard CV joint, a spray of thick axle/moly grease, like one would find inside a CV boot, as if the boot has a small hole in it, but the CV joint does not grind or make any typical noise on sharp turn.
My list of guesses include: motor mounts, tranny mounts, bad bearing/hub, bad half shaft/CV joint, tranny going bad, bad bearing in engine.
History/details: 2004 Venture LS long wheelbase. 160,000 miles. Goodyear Viva 2 tires. Front bearings have been replaced as a set once, driver side again since then, when the ABS sensor went bad. Sometimes when I put it into drive and turn sharply to the left, traction control turns on momentarily. The tranny has begun to slip and grab on a coast-to-stop followed by sudden acceleration.

how do you balance your rear speakers that are connected to a external amp. i can balance my front speakers, they are connected to the stereo wires, but my rears are connected to a amp that is connected to my stereo with RCA jacks. i called sony and they said most models dont have that feature. i have my stereo connected to a equalizer that has outputs for sub, front and rear amps. what i did was connect the right channel of my amp to the front rca jack on my equalizer the the left to the rear, it has the feature of fading from front to rear so i can balance them that way but seems like there should be a better way.

I am in the middle of replacing the timing chains on my 1998 4.0L SOHC 4x4 Explorer. I was going to ignore the balance shaft chain but a piece of the broken jackshaft chain tensioner broke the balance shaft chain tensioner too. Now I have to pull the upper pan/ladder frame.
Of course, the manual says I have to pull the motor to remove the upper pan/ladder frame on a 4x4 but I have heard there may be a way around this. How to avoid pulling the motor and still be able to replace the balance shaft chain tensioner?

I have an 03 ex with 03 motor. I use torque pro all the time and periodically check for any codes. Well, I got P0278 but no check engine light. It does seem to start a little different than our 05 with 04 motor. It sounds like it just doesn't fire right away or like it turns over and then decides to start. It doesn't make the destinctive sound at the end of cranking when it starts. I hope that makes since. I could tell it sounded different, that is why I checked for any codes. It also seems to run just fine down the road and at idle. Where to start or what to look for?

I have a vibration starting at 60mph. Its slight but there. I crawled under and found a very shiny rectangle of metal. Safe to assume I flung a shaft weight? It drives perfect around town just at freeway speeds.
